Wizaard – “The Spills”

Montreal’s Wizaard are half psychedelic-spunk, half disco-funk, and we’ve been slipping into an endless k-hole of “The Spills.” This particular wonky quintet utilizes slinky guitars and ostentatious synths to create spiraling soundscapes to get lost in. Fans of Scissor Sisters, The Growlers, or Mika would dig Wizaard. Wizaard are on Bandcamp. AMFM – “Broom”

AMFM is a brand-spanking-new act from NYC. They sent us their new jam “Broom” and we think it’s worth blogging about. “Broom” is a straight-up indie rock song with a touch of garage rock, glam, and urgency – we can certainly get behind that. Fans of Telekinesis, Turnover, or The Stills will like AMFM’s brand. Y’all can find AMFM on Spotify. Beat Market – “See What I Mean (Feat. Aiza)”

Montreal-based electronic duo Beat Market just sent us a banger by the name of “See What I Mean.” Featuring a glitch-pop opening and a dank female-fronted rap by Aiza, we couldn’t help but get sucked into this one. Fans of Missy Elliott, Major Lazer, or Iggy Azalea will feel right at home. This song is great. Buy it on iTunes if you think so too. Kiyo Company – “Like A Ghost”

“Like A Ghost” came to Kiyo Company mastermind Kiyo Cato on a subway platform as he waited for his homebound train one day… The rest of the song was born later that night as he sat messing around on the piano. The song is a straight pop jam despite its dark lyrical content. About the song, Cato says, “I was trying to understand the death of a friendship, the loss of respect for this person I spent my whole life looking up to, and how we continue to outwardly act like everything is still fine. I was haunted by the way it used to be.” Deep stuff, Kiyo. You know the drill – if you dig “Like A Ghost,” check it out on iTunes. Troup – “Always On Fire”

Troup is based in LA but is actually a multi-national band, with members hailing from the US, the UK, and Italy. The quintet recently released “Always On Fire,” a straightforward 70s-inspired jam that highlights frontman Alex Troup’s knack for pop hooks and Jagger-style swagger. Fans of The Kooks, Arctic Monkeys, or Kaiser Chiefs will dig Troup. Troup’s music is available via iTunes. TUSKA – “Da Da Da”

London duo TUSKA recently hit us up with the infectious “Da Da Da.” These guys specialize in combining a crisp modern rock sound with the scuzzy vibes of the 1970s. We particularly like their use of tremolo-laden and swirly guitar tones. Fans of Tame Impala, Pink Floyd, or Dungen will dig this jam. If you dig it, “Da Da Da” is on iTunes. Casino Moon – “Black Monday”

Brand new Canadian act Casino Moon shot us their new single, “Black Monday…” Every now and then we get a great indie rock jam in our inbox and this is one of them. The duo focuses on a straightforward guitar/drum onslaught with a special attention to lyrical melody. This particular duo sounds a bit like Minus The Bear meets Japandroids. Check Casino Moon out on Bandcamp. Le Couleur – “L’Amour le Jour”

Le Couleur is a trio from Montreal with a synthy new single, “L’Amour le Jour.” Like their contemporaries in Holy Ghost or Empire of the Sun, Le Couleur take an 80s mentality and wrap it in a slick, contemporary package. Their nu-disco vibes have a distinct retro flavor and pair well with the vocals sung in French. Check em out on iTunes – their new album, P.O.P., is due out October 28th. The Can’t Tells – “Looking”

The Can’t Tells are a passionate Brooklyn power trio who fall in a “grey area” when it comes to genre. They are self-described as, “an alternate reality where Elvis Costello was in Mission of Burma and they play Spoon songs at twice the speed.” Well said guys. Fans of Pedro the Lion, early Death Cab for Cutie, or Guided By Voices would like this particular act. Check out The Can’t Tells on Bandcamp. Mr. Little Jeans – “Stitches”

Mr. Little Jeans (a.k.a. Monica Birkenes) is a Norwegian electro-pop artist who hit us up with the excellent pop hymnal, “Stitches.” Birkenes’ dusky voice pairs perfectly with her ethereal synthpop instrumentals. Fans of St. Vincent, Regina Spektor, or Little Boots would like this song. Check out Mr. Little Jeans on iTunes. Minihorse – “Blueblack”

We love fuzzy Michigan power-trio Minihorse – we think they nailed it on their muffed-out jam, “Blueblack.” About the song, Minihorse says, “‘Blueblack’ has the anatomy of a love song, but our object of affection is a hazy figure we can’t quite make out, dressed all in black. After some mental gymnastics, we find ourselves accepting this new love, feeling placid about the journey ahead.” Very cryptic – just how we like our fuzzed out tunes. Fans of Pity Sex, Smashing Pumpkins, or Slowdive will be into Minihorse. Minihorse’s stuff is out now via friendshipfever. Shelles – “Landfill”

We’ve been digging the bummer-rock of “Landfill” by Shelles. The Chapel Hill, NC quintet creates downtrodden tunes full of soaring-guitar leads, warm indie rock twang, and a poignant vocal drawl. Fans of Built to Spill, Sebadoh, or Band of Horses will find themselves right at home. Give Shelles some love on Bandcamp.

bridges and powerlines – “Even Killers Need A Home”

Bridges and powerlines are a NYC quintet making interesting indie rock, falling somewhere on the spectrum between 70s rock and early aughts post-punk. “Even Killers Need A Home” is a true post-punk jam, but never loses that feeling of retro warmth. Fans of She Wants Revenge, The Stills, or Secret Machines will like this track. Check b&p out on the ‘Gram. Marsheaux – “Like A Movie”

Greek pop duo Marsheaux have a new jam that we’re into. The name Marsheaux is taken from first syllables of the duo’s first names – Marianthi Melitsi and Sophie Sarrigiannidou. “Like A Movie” is a simple song that focuses on a blippy drumbeat and 80s synth vibes. Fans of Holy Ghost or CHVRCHES would dig this tune. Check out Marsheaux on iTunes. Lilyer – “I Was On Your Side”

Lilyer is the moniker of Marte Solbakken. Her newest offering is a gentle pop song full of swelling synth pads and Lilyer’s breathy vocals (think Donna Lewis’ 90s hit, “I Love You Always Forever). About “I Was On Your Side,” Lilyer says, “I wrote the song during a time when I was questioning a lot of things… It’s about feeling stuck between what once was and what is, when you don’t even feel any loyalty towards the person you’d once do anything for.” You can listen to Lilyer via Spotify.
