Dolly Spartans – “Hanging Out”

People really seem to be digging the Dolly Spartans, and we’re no exception. Their latest single is called “Hanging Out,” a one-two punch of spastic guitar strumming and forlorn indie-rock vocals. “Hanging Out” has already cracked the top 10 for CMJ adds – the fastest addition of any “unknown” band in college radio history – pretty dope. Fans of The Stills, The Strokes, or Cloud Nothings will be into these guys. Swing by their Bandcamp page if you’re feelin’ it. Mount Defiance – “Shapes”

Mount Defiance hit us up with their latest jam, “Shapes,” and we dig it a lot. These guys bring a Modern Baseball and Moose Blood vibe to the table – combining a mid-tempo beat with ambient instrumentals and a unique take on sprechgesang. “Shapes” is a song about friendships and relationships colliding on the dancefloor – so grab a friend, put on some Mount Defiance, and start moving. Mount Defiance is on Bandcamp too. Jaded – “In The Morning”

Jaded has been making waves since last year, when they landed a song in the Top 10 UK Viral charts on Spotify. The trio is comprised of three talented immigrants who now call London home. They specialize in bombastic and irresistible pop songs – case in point “In The Morning.” This one has all the hallmarks of a great dance-able song – a catchy and simple lyrical hook, fun brass samples, and a driving beat. Be sure to add “In The Morning” to your Spotify playlist. Chris Tall – “Lucy (Sun Goes Up) feat. Maydar”

Ooooh yeah, here’s a fun little song to get down to. We’re jiving with Chris Tall and his futuristic disco jam, “Lucy (Sun Goes Up).” Featuring a wonderful vocal delivery from songstress Maydar, this song is reminiscent of Bruno Mars or Michael Jackson-style pop music. This one’s sure to get your body movin’ and groovin’. Download “Lucy” here. Heavy Heart – “High Dive”

London rockers Heavy Heart have been real busy releasing songs… Their latest is the sparkling “High Dive,” an ambient effort featuring spitty, distorted guitars and haunting female vocals. “High Dives” has lyrical themes of being underwater, but the icy electronics and droning instrumentals make the song sound like a cold, lonely journey through space. “High Dive” is surely worth a listen. Check it out below or swing by Bandcamp to pick it up. Coucheron – “Barely Floating (feat. Matilda)”

Time for your daily dose of EDM. 23-year-old wunderkind Sebastian Kornelius Coucheron-Gautier Teigen a.k.a Coucheron is no stranger to success. Between chart placements, Grammy nods, and even a shout out from Taylor Swift, the Oslo native has been on a steady rise to the top. “Barely Floating” is no exception, with its exciting and energetic production set off by the cherry-on-top vocal delivery from Norwegian singer Matilda. Marc Scibilia – “Summer Clothes”

Marc Scibilia moved from Buffalo to Nashville at age 18… And despite the hangups of label drama and legal limbo, his dedication to his craft has finally prevailed. Scibilia specializes in folksy, country-tinged tunes that are catchy and relatable, demonstrated perfectly by his latest single “Summer Clothes.” Having racked up 800k+ listens on Spotify between the full-band and acoustic versions, Scibilia seems to finally be getting the positive attention he deserves. If you like “Summer Clothes” as much as we did, you can catch Marc when he plays Buffalo Iron Works on April 18th.

Tuarrah – “Horizon’s Brow”

Two dudes and an enigmatic (and anonymous) lead signer from Boston make up the mysterious collective Tuarrah. After bonding over a mutual love of D’Angelo, Radiohead and Björk, the trio got together and created “Horizon’s Brow,” our latest recommendation. Combining blippy percussion with gentle accompaniments and a distinct vocal delivery, this jam is truly the sum of its influences. Snag “Horizon’s Brow” via iTunes. Crystal Cities – “Who’s Gonna Save Us Now”

Crystal Cities is an Australian trio that has spent the last year holed up in their buddy’s garage, getting sweaty and writing dark, dream-pop tunes. We recommend their latest single, “Who’s Gonna Save Us Now,” the title-track of their latest EP. This track simmers all the way through, combining sparkly guitars with a frantic rhythm section and forlorn vocals. If you like it, you can purchase “Who’s Gonna Save Us Now” here. Headphone Hair – “Bleeding Game”

Headphone Hair is the moniker of Ian Walters, a 6th grade History and Science teacher from Oakland. Outside of the classroom, his passion is music, and we dig his latest single “Bleeding Game.” It caught our ears for his hushed falsetto (a la Bon Iver) and use of left-field instrumentals like xylophone and trombone… Plus, it was all recorded in his classroom in one marathon session (and sounds pretty killer regardless). If you’re feeling generous, you can contribute to Bleeding Game’s Kickstarter here.

Rich List – “Esha Ness”

A little bit of history for y’all – Esha Ness was the name of a race horse that ran the second-fastest time in history, and famously “won” a race that never was. Electro-pop activists Rich List have cleverly turned that experience into a metaphor for the human condition… But we dig it for its retro stylings and clever use of 80s-style synth work. Fans of the 1980s, Duran Duran or Tears for Fears will like this one. “Esha Ness” is available via a variety of formats. B O K E H – “Don’t Leave The Fire”

We think you should check out B O K E H (sic), the alter-ego for Berlin-based solo artist Chloë Lewer. The video for “Don’t Leave The Fire” is a glorious look at what might be a dancefloor/go-kart track hybrid, juxtaposing shots of B O K E H racing around the track with segments of her marching around with her squad. Beyond the epic video, B O K E H specializes in electropop tunes with a distinct nod to the 1980s influences – we think you’ll dig it a lot. If you like this song, support it by following this link.

Evan Wize – “Bad Habits”

“Bad Habits” has been a hit at the buffaBLOG offices lately, and for good reason. Evan Wize is an electropop whiz kid from Philadelphia. We recommend the sultry groove of his latest song, “Bad Habits.” Wize combines mysterious chords and menacing funk-bass with accessible lyrics and a pop-minded approach… All in all, a worthwhile listen. Give Evan a follow on Instagram too. Wyldest – “The Poet”

We’re over here grooving to the latest dream pop jam from London power trio, Wyldest. Swirly guitars, hushed vocals, and a deeply groovy drum beat permeate this track… This is one of those jams that isn’t an outright dance banger, but still gets your body moving in its own, understated way. Fans of Warpaint and Blonde Redhead will definitely jive with this one. Be sure to add “The Poet” to your Spotify playlist too. Tonight: Matt Pryor & Dan Andriano

Tonight, two legendary musicians are swinging through Buffalo on their acoustic, co-headlining tour. You may recognize Matt Pryor for his role as front man for Kansas emo pioneers The Get Up Kids. Co-headliner Dan Andriano is the bassist for the equally-influential punk rock outfit Alkaline Trio. Together, they’re touring the country playing acoustic sets that are sure to span both musicians’ impressive catalogs. They’re also offering a tour-exclusive 7″ that they’ve put out together (featuring a collaborative cover of Simon & Garfunkel’s “Cecelia” – check it out below). Stress Dolls‘ Chelsea O’Donnell will be kicking off the evening tonight. Tonight’s show is at 8:00pm at the 9th Ward at Babeville. Tickets are $15 pre-show and $18 at the door.
