George Hollow – “New Boy George (feat. Nabes)”

Pittsburgh rapper George Hollow was raised on a farm outside of the city. That unique perspective has seen Hollow constantly working to develop his own sound, blending his country roots and interest in psychedelic music into hip hop, creating what he calls “Cosmic Cowboy Music.” Don’t let his down-home look fool you, George has mad flow. Darling James – “God’s Graffiti”

Melbourne act Darling James hit us up with their latest, “God’s Graffiti.” Opening with a series of intense guitar blasts, “God’s Graffiti” quickly morphs into an infectious beat, highlighting Darling James’ understated delivery. The song is catchy on a pop level, but is also littered with exotic instrumentation. Fans of Foster the People, Grouplove, or Mikal Cronin will feel right at home. Keep your eyes open for Darling James’ debut EP, due out November 18th. Oldman Boykid – “Bygones”

Oldman Boykid is the moniker of Californian singer/songwriter Daniel Freeman. His latest jam “Bygones” caught our ear for its left-of-field approach. Freeman’s work combines woozy soundscapes, hushed vocal harmonies, and swelling, downtempo beats. The abstract approach produces a calming effect and inspires a search for narrative and imagery among its listeners. Think Moby or Fatboy Slim. Oldman Boykid is on Bandcamp. Dad Legs – “Trash Island”

Costa Mesa act Dad Legs sent us the lighthearted surf rock of “Trash Island” and it brightened up our day. If you’re looking for a fun little ditty about waking up on an island made out of literal trash – you’re in the right place. Their lighthearted approach to surf rock is refreshing and reminiscent of Wavves or Cloud Nothings. Dad Legs is on Bandcamp for a “pay what you want” rate. All The People – “Beach Club”

South London trio All The People are a 3-piece comprising of DJ brothers Ashley & Simon and singer Curtis. Their latest single is “Beach Club,” a trip-hop jam that takes influence from a wide range of influences including r&b, 90s soul, jazz, and early Detroit techno. Fans of Little Dragon, SBTRKT, or Massive Attack will feel right at home. You can buy “Beach Club” on iTunes. Zoe Sky Jordan – “Powerlines”

Zoe Sky Jordan sent us over her latest jam “Powerlines” and we like it. “Powerlines” celebrates the intensity and power of young female friendships. Zoe explains, “My teenage years were defined by a handful of super close, all-encompassing female friendships and I wanted this song and this video to show what that feels like.” She does it all with a lilting, slow-fi sound reminiscent of Low, Pedro The Lion, or Straylight Run. “Powerlines” just got the music video treatment – check it out here. Polykite – “Bones”

Polykite is a Melbourne-based act creating swimmy dream pop a la Local Natives or Yeasayer with a touch of Sarah McLachlan. Lead single “Bones” listens like an ambient dream, featuring far-off female vocals and near impossible levels of reverb. Most notably is a little slide guitar gliding up and down throughout the song. Check out Polykite on Bandcamp. Rosechild – “Disco Fever”

Rosechild is a soul-grunge act from LA. Their latest, “Disco Fever” actually has nothing to do with the ever-so-popular nu-disco sound… In fact, it combines 2016-style indie rock riffs with a Janis Joplin style delivery from vocalist Haile Meirow. The result is something that sounds new and refreshing, but that also holds a classic, easily-digestible appeal. Think Bully meets Turnover with a splash of Local Natives. Rosechild’s music is available via Bandcamp. Bad Pony – “Bottles”

Sydney-based indie rockers Bad Pony impressed us with the synth-laced indie rock banger “Bottles.” Singer Jarred Young explains the meaning of the tune, stating, “‘Bottles’ is about a toxic, alcoholic relationship. It’s a lyrically co-written effort that explores frustration, infatuation, intoxication and despair.” The song itself is reminiscent of Two Door Cinema Club, The Rapture, and Bastille. Check it out on iTunes if you like what you hear. Tia Gostelow – “Vague Utopia”

Australian singer/songwriter Tia Gostelow hit us up with her latest single “Vague Utopia” and we think it’s worth blogging about. It’s an upbeat indie rock track with a fairly straightforward vibe. About the song, Tia says, “[‘Vague Utopia’ is] about experiencing the cusp of adulthood – it’s that feeling of ‘almost.’ School’s almost over, we’re almost adults, and almost in a world other than school.” Ain’t that the truth! Tia is on Bandcamp if you’re trying to support. Hollow Twin – “Bound By Blood”

Hollow Twin is a dark folk act based out of Vancouver, BC. We dig their latest offering, “Bound By Blood,” a moody tune featuring a rolling drumbeat, ethereal instrumentals, and the duo’s soulful vocals. The duo is made up of Emmalee Watts and Becky Wosk who bonded over their “old souls” and love of vintage music. They will surely appeal to fans of Lana Del Rey, Now, Now, or Ellie Goulding Hollow Twin is on Bandcamp. honey – Better Luck Next Year

It’s that inexplicably romantic, mid-autumn time of year where the leaves have changed but haven’t quite fallen. The kind of weather to make you feel nostalgic about just about everything – sweater weather if you will. It’s the perfect time of year to curl up and get sentimental with a new emo album. Here’s our recommendation for this week – they are a band called honey and their new EP is called Better Luck Next Year. honey is a duo from Buffalo, Katlin Purpura (bass/vocals) and Eric Bechard (guitar/vocals) to be exact. Better Luck Next Year hits that sweet spot between bedroom-pop production and true, emo sincerety. They recorded BLNY DIY-style over the course of one day in Syracuse with their buddy Tim Hall. honey’s male/female harmonies blend perfectly with the ever-so-slight lo-fi warble of the EP’s production. It bridges the gap between an early 90s emo sound and newer acts like Tigers Jaw, Petal, or Pinegrove.[...]

Magic Bronson – “What A Week”

LA’s Magic Bronson impressed us when we heard the smooth pulse of “What A Week.” His latest single is sexy and mysterious, blending a stuttering backbeat, with pulsating synth bursts and distant, washy vocals. Plus, if you let out a deep, long sigh of relief at the end of a tough week, you can surely relate to this one. Bronson has a distinct flavor that would appeal to fans of Alt-J, Phantogram, or Gnarls Barkley. Snag it from iTunes if you dig it. Holy Fawn – “Reykur”

Three adjectives to describe Holy Fawn‘s latest single, “Reykur:” swelling, anthemic, and a little off-kilter (in a good way). This Phoenix quartet boasts a sky-high vocalist, swirling math rock sentiment, and overwhelming post-rock ambience. All in all, it’s a really cool listen. Fans of Animal Collective, DIIV, or Deerhoof will dig Holy Fawn. “Reykur” is available via Bandcamp for a “pay what you want” rate. Hippo Campus – “Boyish”

Hippo Campus put out a song we’ve been digging lately. “Boyish” is an upbeat jam with a youthful, alternative-rock energy. About the song, Hippo Campus says, “There’s a moment in growing up when it becomes clear that the road you walk is your own to cultivate…” “Boyish” deals with confronting the ghosts of your pasts. For fans of Coheed and Cambria, Mute Math, or Young The Giant. You can buy “Boyish” on iTunes if you dig it.
