Tonight: Big Huge

Tonight Sugar City will be the scene of a glorious power rock revival the likes of which has not been seen in a long time when New York City’s Big Huge makes their local debut. Taking the tight songwriting, unadulterated fun and crisp riffage of 80’s Top 40 rock while amputating the corporate slickness and replacing it with proper DIY downtown rock bravado, Big Huge feels just right, especially as showcased on their tasteful but kick ass debut LP Cruel World. Opening the show will be local punks Uniform(OPR), avante garde noise rockers Welks Mice, and psychedelic punk rockers Slow Mutants. Doors open at 8pm with music starting promptly at 8:30pm to honor Sugar City’s curfew and their neighbors. Cover is $7-$10 depending what you can kick in. CRUEL WORLD by BIG HUGE

Tonight: Jouska

If you thought your Wednesday night wouldn’t be very exciting, Dreamland has you covered.  Two touring bands will be rolling though the Franklin St. venue, along with some locals. Jouska will be returning from Albany, who recently signed to Tiny Engines records with a new full length album that dropped late last year, titled Topiary.  New Jersey pop rockers, Teenage Halloween, will also be rolling through town. Show up early to catch local hard hitters Uniform OPR and Tomoreaux. The gig is set to kick off at 8pm, and bringing $5 to support the two touring acts is a must.

Tonight: Del Paxton

There are plenty of options for gigs tonight, but it looks like Dreamland takes the cake.  While local boys Del Paxton will be closing out the night, there is a totally stacked lineup of touring acts, which make for plenty of reasons to come early.  Opening the night will be Buffalo hardcore act, Uniform OPR, followed by Opposites from Chicago, then Options also from Chicago, and Sneeze from Boston. Come early, as this show is going to be a packed one. Doors for the show are at 7pm, and bring 7 bucks for the three touring bands.  Check out Del Paxton’s first video from their upcoming Little Elephant session below, and get stoked.

Tonight: A Giant Dog

Following the release of their newest album, Pile, Austin, TX based rock band, A Giant Dog will be making a stop at the Mohawk Place tonight.  On their major label debut on Merge Records, A Giant Dog finds the perfect balance of good old loud, aggressive, hard rock, but with stellar, meaningful lyrics to boot. After spinning the record a handful of times, there’s no doubt in my mind that they are going to put on a straight up boisterous live set. Kicking things off on the local side of things will be Uniform OPR and JOHNS.  Doors are set to open at 7pm with a showtime of 8pm, and it’s only five bucks.

Tonight: Fucko

Another Wednesday, another solidly stacked gig at the Glitterbox.  Fucko from Boston will be rolling through town as the touring act this time around, which you’d probably be into if you ever wanted to hear a slightly darker version of Potty Mouth.  Locals on the gig include the new(ish), rip roaring band Kimmy (band), the equally as fresh hardcore act Uniform OPR, and Glitterbox staples Hot Tip. According to the facebook event, this will be one of the last shows at the Glitterbox, so if you’ve ever wanted to check out a show there, now’s your chance.  Doors open at 6pm, and the show is $6 at the door, or free/pay what you want if you’re under 18. Head to said facebook event to inquire about the address.
