Dreamy ghostrockers The Leones are haunting their way into town tonight, bolstered by an all-star cast of openers. One of these openers happens to be Mutual Friends (the new project from Nelson-Type’s Kevin Scoma and our favorite lake-popper Bryan Johnson), who are playing their first show this evening. It’s bound to be a good time, especially with Moody Cosmos and Coral Collapse in tow. The show starts at 8:00 tonight. See you at Mohawk Place!
There are just too many jokes I could make about the title of this post, so I’m just going to leave it alone. All jokes aside, Allentown house venue Little Baltimore is hosting a stacked lineup of bands tonight for your listening pleasure that is just straight up dreamy. The all local bill consists of dream pop act Coral Collapse, folkgaze act The Leones, post jammers Lazlo Hollyfield, and the return of Buffalo post rock / shoegazers, Tomoreaux. Doors open at 8pm, with a music starting some time around 9pm. For only 3 bucks at the door, how could you possibly have a better Saturday night? There’s something great to be said about the camaraderie that has formed between buffaBLOG, Buffalo musicians and honest music lovers over the past six years. We’re celebrating the all-around enthusiasm for the local music scene as well as the DIY essence of that camaraderie tonight at Nietzsche’s, and the lineup couldn’t be doper. Helping to kick off the night are Telempathy and The Get Money Squad, both of which maintain a surfy tone, though Telempathy has a more 60’s rock-infused lo-fi sound while TGMS has a breezier groove to them. Also slated to play are Cooler, one of our favorite fuzz rock bands who seem to be gaining enormous momentum lately, Moody Cosmos, psychedelic garage rock act who are gearing up to deliver new material this summer, and The Leones, whose dreamy, ethereal tunes are every bit atmospheric as they are ruminative. The only sad bit of news to report on is the cancellation of Bethlehem Steel’s set for the night.[...]
Headlining their first show in Buffalo, local shoegaze/dream-pop band The Leones are a newly formed duo comprised of singer/songwriter Justin Bachulak and guitarist Dustin Lau, who met at show at Babeville’s 9th Ward while Bachulak was playing with Americana act Crows and Jays. Combining ethereal, contemplative guitar tones with jazzy keys and dark atmospherics, the pair plan to release their debut LP, Ghost In The City early next year after a string of regional tour dates to promote the new material. Tonight, the band will perform at the Studio at Waiting Room along with local indie rock acts Applennium and Hundred Plus Club. Tickets for the all ages show are $8 and can be purchased here. If your Wednesday plans involve Netflix and a pizza-induced coma, you’re doing something wrong. Now before you get your jimmies all rustled because I just shit-talked pizza, keep reading. Between this weekend’s MiA festivities, Monday’s of Montreal show, and Mikal Cronin’s visit to Mohawk Place last night, Buffalo has been on somewhat of a hot streak. And that streak continues tonight at Waiting Room with a set from Indiana roots rock outfit Murder By Death. For those unfamiliar, Murder By Death crafts a particularly gothic-tinged vein of Americana; imagine a Decemberists / Deer Tick crossover for a good starting point. The five-piece tour in support of its latest effort, the crowdfunded Big Dark Love, released earlier this year on Bloodshot Records.
