Tonight: Harmonica Lewinski

Tonight Rochester Hell raising gang of malcontents Harmonica Lewinski make a welcome return to the Queen City opening for local legends The Irving Klaws and fellow Rochesteronians The Fox Sisters at Nietzsche’s. Frankly, this is a pretty bonkers lineup, featuring the aforementioned Rochester hellraisers, plus the hard charging, R&B party up fun of The Fox Sisters, as well as the raunchy and intense fun of The Irving Klaws, so this show might be exactly what you need after this extraordinarily wacky week. Also, this show is so not whitebread that the only suburban Millennial gentrifiers you’ll have to put up with are the ones you pass on Allen on your way to the show. Cover is $5 and doors are at 10pm. The Fox Sisters Return with “Stuck On You”

One would think with a name like The Fox Sisters, the group would be a family affair. Ironically though, The Fox Sisters are not a group of sisters, but seven guys playing ‘60s style R&B out of Rochester, NY. The song serves as the A-side, with the track “Yeah Yeah” on the B-side. The song carries elements from ‘60s rock & roll music like Phil Marshall’s bouncy guitar riffs, supported by Patrick McNally’s upbeat vocals. The song also dips into R&B with the incorporation of the alto saxophone, which comes in strong during a solo towards the end of the song. Check out “Stuck On You” below. Tonight: The Fox Sisters

Rochester’s retro rock scene will be invading Mohawk Place for a night that will undoubtedly entertain fans of R&B, Blues, and retro rock and roll.  The Fox Sisters’ band name basically describes their vibe, which is that of an energetic rhythm blues band with the power of Little Richard, the brash vibes of King Khan and the horns of Van Morrison. Also on the bill are The Temptators will be putting on your dancing shoes as well with their surf rock beats and 50’s style jams. Their lyrics fit the bill of The Beach Boys, and their guitar riffs will take you straight to the beach. Not to be overlooked are The Televisionaries, whose retro instrumental surf rock licks  will surely bring you straight to the beach. Maybe after the show is done you can go to the waterfront or something. Doors open at 8pm with a $5 cover.

Top 20 Rochester Tracks: 20-11

It’s that time of the year again where we rack our brain, scan our playlists, and check all of our posts for all of the songs that we’ve covered from the 585 from the past year. It seems like just yesterday we were jamming out to Kitty Snowpants and discussing when JOYWAVE was going to break (spoiler: they did). This is our fourth year of tracking our favorite songs of the year out of Rochester. Now, I am sure there are amazing songs that we’ve brushed over or haven’t even heard coming out of the city. This list is subjective obviously, this is a blog. Regardless, I think Rochester’s scene this year has been the strongest it has been ever, pumping out consistent jams which is giving Buffalo a run for its money. Without further adieu here is the first half of buffaBLOG’s top Rochester track of 2015. 20) Animal Sounds[...]

The Fox Sisters Release New Album Under The Stars

Ever wish you could get away with doing the mashed potato or the hitch hike at a show nowadays? The Fox Sisters provide the perfect musical backdrop for some old-timey jivin’ of that variety. The Fox Sisters are a big band with a big sound. This seven piece group out of Rochester will transport you to a different time period with their zippy rock ‘n’ roll tunes that are reminiscent of King Kahn & BBQ Show. Their newest full length release, Under The Stars, combines 60’s R&B with a lo-fi, garage sound to give us a retro frat-rock feel. It’s a feel good record that brings about the ruckus of a full fledged 60’s dance club in the best way possible. Grab your sweetheart and/or your dancing shoes and give it a listen below.

Reel Time Records Drops Split 7″ from the Televisionaries & the Fox Sisters

Rochester’s the Televisionaries and the Fox Sisters have unleashed a split 7′ EP of garage punk and psych soul jams on the appropriately named Reel Time Records that is seven minutes of pure reckless, demented bliss. This is real John Waters soundtrack music: classic, prehistoric rebel rock… the mythic, sexualized early rock’n’roll that terrified the Concerned Citizens groups your grandparents belonged to and informed early punk. Fast, loose, and joyfully unhinged, this three song equivalent of vodka, Redbull, and speed is a thrill. Enjoy.
