Spooky Stephen Drops “Boom Room” Session Mix

If you happened to be one of the many who attended our sold out Hamlin House Halloween Party this past weekend, you may have caught Spooky Stephen, one half of Buffalo party DJ duo, Spooky Business, keeping the party lively in between Soul Patch sets. The always busy DJ recently released a new mix cut at DJ Flo’s “Boom Room” studio in Brooklyn late last week, in addition to a fresh mashup on his SoundCloud page. With another round of Halloween parties going down this coming weekend, make sure to add Stephen’s mix to the docket of spooky soundtracks. Listen to the mix below, and catch Spooky Stephen on Saturday, November 1st at Epic along with Josh Yourmoms and MAXY NY.

Tonight: Halloween at the Hamlin House

In a monster mashup of epic proportions, Buffalo’s scary-party-throwing veterans OLD FRIENDS, NEW FACES team up with our very own buffaBLOG for one of the city’s favorite Halloween parties. The 21+ event promises an evening of fun, food, dance, and drink, and with free beer (included in the ticket price) flowing til 2am, the drink part is a definite yes. Held at the  haunted Hamlin House, the event is the perfect blend of house party and spooky scary atmosphere. Playing two sets, Buffalo’s own “Tied to the 90s” cover band Soul Patch will be providing the soundtrack for the party, along with a DJ set from Spooky Stephen, one half of the appropriately named Spooky Business. Pre-sale tickets are no longer available, so get yours at the door for $20. Doors are at 10, and while costumes aren’t required, there is a costume contest. Suggestion: don’t be that guy. Yes,[...]

Just Announced: Halloween at the Hamlin House

A demonic, unholy union has occurred in Buffalo, NY…. OLD FRIENDS, NEW FACES has teamed up with buffaBLOG to host a night of debauchery at the legendary (and haunted) Hamlin House (432 Franklin Street). OLD FRIENDS, NEW FACES has been throwing the scariest bashes in Western New York for forty years; we here at buffaBLOG have strived to be the best blog for finding local music, evil or otherwise. This year, we have combined our powers to make a freight-filled night of freakishly fun food, dance, and drink. The event will take place on Saturday, October 25 at 10 pm.  Performing two sets is the 90’s alternative cover band Soul Patch. Also, featured for a 2nd consecutive year is Spooky Stephen of the DJ duo, Spooky Business. Tickets are $18 presale over at our bigcartel store, or $20 at the door.  Every ticket includes FREE BEER until 2 am. Get your ticket now if[...]

Heavy Rotation: Rick Jameson

Artists love to have alter egos, and in this case, Spooky Business DJ Rick Jameson has many. If you want to call him by his government name, address him as Sean ‘Seabass’ Heidinger, who by day is the Classified Advertising Director for  Artvoice, a cover not unlike Clark Kent or Peter Parker. At night, however, he is saving people…from boring nights and bad music. As one half of “World-Class DJ Supergroup” Spooky Business, Spooky Sean got his start at a Buffalo mainstay of nights that are unforgettable yet you can’t remember them, the Pink. Like the DJ, the bar also goes by other names, including it’s the actual one, Allen Street Bar and Grill, inexplicably nicknamed The Old Pink.  From here, business only got bigger and better, and now the duo plays bars and clubs all over the 716. This Friday, the blog’s second installment of our Heavy Rotation series takes[...]

buffaBLOG

I’m not sure if you have gotten the message yet, but there is something called Herd Fest going on and buffaBLOG is dabbling in it. This Saturday, the blog. along with many other progressive members of the music community. will combine forces to deliver a festival that has people traveling both far and wide (I have a friend coming from NYC to see it). The goal is to show the community at large that Buffalo’s music scene is thriving even if it is not reflective upon the numerous closed venues in the past couple of years. Our party is Saturday night at Duke’s as usual and here is what we have in store. First on the lineup is Brimstone Blondes, channeling its retro-sound ranging from semi-obnoxious B-52s to ultra-hip-dipping Talking Heads. In numerous personal conversations I’ve had, I’ve always dubbed frontman, Matthew Danger Lippman as one of Buffalo’s secret treasures,[...]

Tonight: Soul Patch/Spooky Business 90’s Birthday Bash

Soul patches are gross. Unlike the moustache, which looks great on the right guy (I’m looking at you Tom Selleck), or the ever-popular beard, these scrag-strips have no redeeming value. They are simply filthy tufts of hair that pool up under the lower lip and make whoevers wearing them look like an asshole. Soul patches no bueno. Now if we’re talking about Buffalo band, Soul Patch, well then, that’s a whole different story. The 90’s loving local cover band, featuring Keith and Steve from ETID, have become quite a hot entity in our little town, perhaps because they embody the spirit of the 90’s more than your traditional 90’s cover band. In addition to excellent renditions of “Breed” and “Say it Ain’t So” you have your choice cuts of memorable b-sides and hit songs that you used to love and sing in the shower but have forgotten about almost completely.[...]

Tonight: Artvoice Presents Night Shift

Artvoice is presenting the second installment of its monthly showcase series tonight at what appears to be the event’s home base of Hardware. The bill is made up of some of Buffalo’s best DJs, including a handful of buffaBLOG part vets like Brooklyn via Buffalo via Rochester producer DJ Mario Bee, Medison, and Spooky Business. Despite sticking with a collection of DJs again, Artvoice has hinted that Night Shift will evolve from showcase to showcase, so keep an eye on future installments to see what the weekly publication has up its sleeve. Night Shift kicks off this evening at 11pm with a cover of $5.
