Tonight: Kharlos

Dreamland on Franklin Street is hosting a proper Buffalo blowout that’s not to be missed in honor of the release of the debut cassette from post grunge troublemakers Kharlos. Assembled for the occasion of the release of Don’t Think About Dying At My Party (More Power Tapes) will be [redacted; secret] and buzz band Sixties Future, with a special vinyl DJ set from Queen City Cartel’s Dante Velour, a keg of beer, and a piñata. With Kharlos, a local super group of sorts, and [redacted; secret] about to [redacted] for [redacted] to tour the [redacted] with [redacted], it’s going to be a hell of a party.  Admission is free. Show starts at 7pm.

Tonight: Attic Abasement

If you like Fridays, if you like Nietzsche’s, if you like stacked bills at Nietzsche’s, there is a 100% chance that you should locate your physical being there for tonight’s gem of a lineup. Hailing from Rochester, Attic Abasement is a low-fi indie trio who’s slack-rock sound unites a quiescent attitude with effortlessly disheveled vocals and instrumentals. Frontman Mike Rheinheimer’s voice, at times, bears sonic resemblance to Dave Bazan’s (Pedro The Lion) mellow but emotionally pointed croon. It’s basement music with a simple exterior, but there’s a lyrical complexity woven in that heightens the captivation factor. Opening the show are three beloved local bands including Sixties Future, a new Gaslight Anthem-like band, MAGS, and Newish Star. Cover is only $5 and music kicks off around 10pm. Sixties Future Releases HAIM Cover

It’s no secret that Sixties Future has been one of our favorite bands to pop up in 2015. With just one show under its belt, the quintet has brought a whole new sound to the oftentimes repetitive Buffalo’s music scene. After an impressive debut show as part of Humble Braggers release party, Sixties Future showed a very engaged crowd what was up their sleeve, which included an impressive cover of HAIM’s “The Wire.” This week, the band debuted the cover recorded last month with Jay Zubricky at GCR Audio. Highlighting Chris Couche’s gravelly vocals, Sixties Future delivers a version of “The Wire” which is on par with the original while adding some of the band’s unique flair to the track. Sixties Future will be playing on August 7th at Nietzsche’s with Attic Abasement, M.A.G.S., and Newish Star. Check out the HAIM cover below.

Tonight: Humble Braggers

After a dreary day of shopping for flower sprinklers and silhouette cut-outs at the Allentown Art Festival, you’d best find yourself at Mohawk Place this evening. Humble Braggers will be releasing their excellent new EP, Disposable Friends, full of lush synth-heavy tunes a la Passion Pit or Joywave. This release is the next strong contender to come from record label Admirable Traits. Rounding out the night are two newish Buffalo bands, the ex-ICSM led THICK WINTER BLUD and The National-esque Sixties Future, as well as the Rochester synthmasters in Sea Planes. All in all, tonight should be an incredible show. Doors are at 8:00pm and $8 gets you in – don’t forget, that admission price comes with a copy of Disposable Friends. Sixties Future Drops Newest Single “Sugar”

Having just recently emerged on the local band circuit, Sixties Future is on a bit of a roll here, despite its infancy. Last month, the quartet dropped two introductory tracks in “Skeleton” and “Shot,” giving us a solid preview of what the band is all about: straightforward rock-and-roll that is handsome, catchy, and radio-ready. This week, the group brings us another freshie in the form of “Sugar,” an upbeat fireball of a track channeling Springsteen in his best moments. The song, recorded at GCR Audio with Buffalo boardlord Jay Zubricky, balances quick, tom-driven percussion and loud, urgent guitar playing for a high-energy sweet spot that makes me want to front-kick holes in drywall. Fans of The National or The Gaslight Anthem: you’d dig. Sixties Future will play its first gig this Saturday at the Humble Braggers’ EP Release Party; don’t miss out. Sixties Future Premieres Debut Tracks

New to the scene, Buffalo four-piece, Sixties Future, debuted its first two tracks this morning. Featuring Mo Halliday, the former bass player of Sleepy Hahas, the quartet dropped the double single, “Skeleton”/”Shot” via soundcloud. Of the two, “Skeleton” is the stand out track, kicking off with a very “Heroes”-esque melody and featuring bassy National-like vocals and some retro organs. We hear a lot of Teddybears in the song. Both tracks can be streamed over at the band’s soundcloud page. Listen to “Skeleton” below.
