Tonight: PAWS

What better way to end your weekend then with a stacked show? Tonight, PAWS from Glasgow, Scotland will be in town at the Mohawk Place, backed by some killer local acts. The three piece brings some killer energy to the table, creating a unique blend of alternative rock and pop punk. Opening the show up will be two killer local acts, Sonny Baker and Passed Out. Sonny Baker will be playing with his full band, and Passed Out will be kicking things off. Doors are set to open at Mohawk at 7pm, and its a $10 cover charge at the door. Don’t miss out on this one.

Tonight: Beach Slang

Tonight Mohawk Place is the spot for a total rager that’s descending onto Buffalo when Philly’s Beach Slang come into town.  Beach Slang are dropping a new EP titled, We Were Babies & We Were Dirtbags, which is a tonal shift for the ear-splitting post-punk group. The new EP features cellos and pianos and an all together, gentler sound. The shift shows a marked evolution for the band. Their first and second records are brash, energetic and  make their statement on the decaying nature of youth.  It’s going to be wild to see how they incorporate pieces from the EP into their typically loud punk shows. Sharing the night with Beach Slang will be *repeat repeat, a surf/garage rock outfit hailing from Nashville, TN, and Buffalo’s own post-punk act Orations. Doors are at 7pm, $17 at the door.

Tonight: MAGS and The Slums Double Release Show

You might want to clear up your schedule and head down to Mohawk Place tonight.  Two great local acts, MAGS and the Slums, are both dropping new projects today, and are having one big party to celebrate.  MAGS are dropping their first full length on Admitrable Traits Records, titled M.A.G.S., and the Slums are putting out their final(??) EP, titled Bloodsucker. If I were you, I’d show up early because this one will probably be packed. Buffalo’s own Humble Braggers will be kicking things off, and Albany’s Jouska will also be returning to Buffalo to perform. Doors open at the Mohawk at 8PM, and it is $12 at the door.  Admission comes with one free MAGS CD, and the first 50 people though the door get a free “mystery swag bag” via The Slums. BLEEDERS

Tonight: Bleeders

Tonight Deep Space 8 will be home to a chaotic night of jams when Bleeders come through town. Bleeders are a feminist punk band out of Kutztown, PA and are coming off their latest release, We Hate Men. They are a group you got to experience live as their profound energy isn’t something to pass on.  Playing alongside Bleeders for the night are hardcore punks, Radiation Risks, Matthew Danger Lippman, and Grain Assault. Doors at 7pm. Donations of $5 for the touring band. WE HATE MEN by BLEEDERS

Tonight: New Swears

Head down to Mohawk Place tonight to make your Tuesday night a fun one, as New Swears will be rolling down all the way from Ottawa to grace us with their presence. The boisterous four piece will have the crowd moving with their infections blend of power pop and garage rock. Their new LP that came out in June,  And The Magic Of Horses, is a blast from front to back.  Opening up the show will be two local acts, The Gennies and Super-Tugger. Doors are set to open for the show at 8pm, and there is an $8 cover at the door.  This is one you won’t want to miss.

Tonight: Tegan and Sara

Tegan and Sara are undeniably one of the most important modern indie pop bands. Their influence spans multiple genres and have effected innumerable bands, and you’ve got a chance to see them live tonight at the Town Ballroom.  While they are technically still on tour in support of their latest album, Love You To Death, the duo is gearing up for a string of shows celebrating the ten year anniversary of the legendary record, The Con, so I’m sure you’ll be hearing multiple tracks off of that record, as well as many tracks spanning their entire catalog. Opening the show will be the incredible Japanese Breakfast, and if you caught their recent show at Mohawk Place, you know their set is not to be missed. Their new LP, Soft Sounds From Another Planet, just came out on Dead Oceans, and it is killer from front to back. Doors open at the[...]

Tonight: The New Pornographers

Well, I think it’s safe to say that tonight is one of the busiest nights for shows of the summer.  One option to make your Tuesday a special one is a rare appearance from Canadian indie vets, The New Pornographers.   On tour for their new album that dropped earlier this year, titled Whiteout Conditions, the legacy act is rolling through Buffalo with a stellar opener as well.  While you should expect to hear some cuts off of the new album, you’re sure to hear a good amount from their extensive, hit filled back catalog as well. The thing that makes this lineup so stacked is the touring opener for the show, Cloud Nothings.  While they have played in Buffalo a few times over the past couple years, the noisy indie outfit still brings the heat every show.  Doors open for the show at 7pm, and tickets are available at[...]

Tonight: Out of Body

What better way of spending a Friday night than by thrashing around for a few hours. Tonight at Deep Space 8 is set to be a heavy rager that’s sure to get you going. Coming from Austin, TX will be Out of Body, who are just coming off the release of their latest LP, Voiceless. Out of Body mixes the sounds of alternative rock and mid-90s post hardcore with a lot of solid riffs and guitar work. Playing alongside them will be Riot Stares from Charleston, SC who bring something of a revitalized old school hardcore sound, and locals Onpoint  and Social Divorce. Those into Buffalo hardcore aren’t going to want to miss this. 7pm doors, music starts at 8 p.m. $5 for the touring bands. Voiceless by Out of Body

Hypoluxo - Sewing Souls

Tonight: Hypoluxo

It’s summer. It’s hot. It’s humid and you’re jonesing to get out and do something. Brooklyn act Hypoluxo will be playing at Sewing Souls to help you get that energy out. Having dropped their LP, If Language back in September, the four piece is back with a tight collection of songs in the form of their new EP, Taste Buds, releasing this August. The band came together and started making music while in Brooklyn, but it’s where each of the band members are from that’s really had an impact on their sound. Hailing from parts of Florida and LA, Hypoluxo’s sound has a laid back attitude and echoes Beat Happening a bit. Playing alongside Hypoluxo will be psych rockers, Deadwolf who are coming off their crazy show on Sunday, noise pop act, Suburbs, and locals, Planet Three. Doors are at 7pm. $5 at the door for the touring band. Taste Buds by Hypoluxo

Tonight: Big Thief

Fresh off of the release of their new LP, Capacity, Big Thief will be making their Buffalo debut tonight. The LP, out on Saddle Creek Records (Conor Oberst, Bright Eyes, Hop Along, Cursive, many many more) has been receiving raving reviews from  many major music publications, including Pitchfork, which gave the record their Best New Music rating. I can’t think of a better venue to house the Brooklyn four piece’s Buffalo arrival, as the Tralf Music Hall almost feels like it was made to house the band’s delicate, haunting sound. Doors are set to open at the Tralf at 7pm, and while there are no locals on the show, folk influenced Brooklyn act, Twain, will be kicking things off at 8pm. Tickets are only $12 at the door.

Tonight: The Naked And Famous

All you synth pop lovers out there need to get down to the Town Ballroom tonight. New Zealand turned Los Angeles based act, The Naked and Famous, are finally making a stop in Buffalo. From what I can see, it looks like the band has never actually made it out to Buffalo since they formed in 2008. Since their formation, The Naked and Famous have been pumping out hits almost every year. Even if you don’t actively listen to the band, you have to have heard a lot of their songs in passing over the years. While they are sure to be prepping up a new release sometime soon, they are still on tour supporting their 2016 LP, Simpler Forms. Opening up the show will be Buffalo’s own Humble Braggers, who recently released their debut LP, I Know Better, I’m No Better. Doors are set to open at 7pm, and tickets are still[...]

chevronbloom milkies

Tonight: Chevron Bloom

Chevron Bloom are a three piece band that’s been blazing through the scene recently. Tonight they are bringing their wide open sound to Milkie’s on Elmwood. Their sound puts together the more ethereal elements of psych and shoegaze with a harder alt/indie rock edge. Playing alongside Chevron Bloom on this stacked bill are the emotive slowcore band, Honey COMA, who always bring it with their strong songwriting and lastly a debut from Little Summer, a new act featuring members of the Mallwalkers, Unwelcome Guests, and Slow Mutants. Doors are at 8pm, $5 at the door. EP by Chevron Bloom

Tonight: Edgar Clinks

Lo-fi lovers are in for a treat tonight.  Edgar Clinks will be bringing their lo-fi indie sounds to Mohawk Place with a stacked supporting lineup. The band is coming down from Rhode Island, and recently dropped a tight single, titled “As My Daydreams Swim By.” As far as locals go, we’ve got Jesse Kaufman & The Spirit of Little Baltimore, Sparklebomb, as well as Ex-Pat, a weirdo solo act via SUNY Purchase. Doors are set to open at 8pm, and its only $5 at the door. As My Daydreams Swim By by edgar clinks

Tonight: What Moon Things

Head over to the east side tonight for a gig for the real weirdos. Fresh off of the release of their new LP, Someone Who Isn’t Me, avant-pop act, What Moon Things, are heading from Brooklyn to Buffalo for their first show in the city. Accompanying them on their week and a half long tour are a freak folk act, Pecas, from New Paltz. Also on the bill are local post rock act, Tomoreaux, as well as Circular Logic. Deep Space Eight is a DIY spot so you might have to do some investigating to find the location. Music is set to kick off at 8:30pm with a cover of just $5. Someone Who Isn’t Me by What Moon Things

Tonight: Kevin Devine

Buffalo is in store for a very special treat tonight. Kevin Devine is making his way back to our city for his first show here in a couple years, but is leaving his band behind and playing a solo set in the basement of Asbury Hall, the 9th Ward. This treat of a solo show is normally reserved for big cities and special occasions, and is something you won’t want to miss if you are at all familiar with his material. Devine has been releasing music since the early 2000’s, and he is sure to be playing songs spanning his entire discography, including tracks from his side project with Andy Hull of Manchester Orchestra, Bad Books. Local songwriter Sonny Baker will be kicking the show off, and he is fresh off of the release of a new EP, titled easier. Sonny will be playing a solo set as well. The mellow night[...]
