Wednesday, May 21st @ 7pm Low Cut Connie @ Town Ballroom   Philly-based vintage rock and rollers Low Cut Connie play mid-week in the Theatre District. Since forming in 2010, the project has evolved from the early days of playing karaoke bars and honky tonks to getting the presidential rub by landing a slot on President Obama’s coveted Spotify playlist. Fans of J. Roddy Walston and the Business, King Tuff, or Har Mar Superstar would be enthralled with LCC’s encapsulating lyrics and their twangy, no-frills western saunter. Tonight: Shilpa Ray

Bluesy Brooklyn  soul punk  heroine Shilpa Ray makes her welcome return to Buffalo tonight at Nietzsche’s. Opening the show will be lovable retro rockers Handsome Jack and local dive bar rockers The Gennies. Doors open at 9pm and cover is $8.

Tonight: Shilpa Ray

In what has turned into a regular occurrence over the past decade, Shilpa Ray, she of Shilpa Ray & Her Happy Hookers, is back in town tonight, closing out the weekend later this evening at Nietzsche’s. The Brooklyn based musician, who blends blues, punk, and gritty soul along with her trusty harmonium, is one of indie rock’s strongest and most captivating vocalists. Don’t let her frequent trips to Buffalo keep you away tonight, as each show she delivers is as powerful as the next. Tonight’s show kicks off at 8pm with Buffalo’s Pine Fever setting the stage prior to Ray. Cost to get through the doors is $7.

Tonight: Shilpa Ray

Shilpa Ray has a long and passionate history with the city of Buffalo. The NYC resident has played our little nook for years, both as a solo act and as the front woman for Her Happy Hookers. Since her visits began nearly a decade ago, Buffalo has embraced her with open arms, perhaps because, as the old saying goes, real recognizes real. Shilpa is an artist’s artist; a commanding lyricist, powerful stage presence, and a unique entity in todays mish-mash world of categorized phonies. An infusion of blues, punk, rock’n’roll, and soul is perhaps the only good way to describe her sound. Look to 2011’s Teenage and Torture for assurance and to have your mind absolutely blown. Girls got pipes. Tonight, Shilpa will be playing Nietzsches, her main stomping grounds since Mohawk closed, along with the fast-rising duo, She Keeps Bees. As both are known for their eclectic and moving live shows,[...]

Tonight: Shilpa Ray

If you’re like me, you have a faux real job, such as a server, bartender or a barista. Not to say those aren’t real jobs, but let’s face it, monkeys could do our jobs, and probably with less attitude too. In our ‘desired’ vocations, we don’t get out to see shows all that often, considering a lot of shows fall of Fridays, Saturdays or the random weekdays we happen to work. However, tonight is a different case, Nietzsche’s has put together a show just for us (not really, but it’s nice to think so). Nietzsche’s will be hosting a plethora of talent this evening, most notably harmonium toating Brooklynite, Shilpa Ray, who, sans her Happy Hookers, will be bringing her own brand screaming indie roots rock to Allentown. Also on the bill will the Buffalo’s indie slacker rockers, Difficult Nights, The Coy Wolves and Nietzsche’s regular Pam Swarts. 7 bucks at[...]
