Rust Belt Brigade Preps Upcoming Album, Shares New Single

Buffalo roots unit Rust Belt Brigade has announced the release of its forthcoming new record Howdy Hallelujah, Here’s The Thing, set to drop on September 18th. The album’s first single “Roll Call” plays heavily into the band’s bluegrass roots, once again employing local violinist Sally Schaefer to add some old timey sheen to the tune. As always, the group’s raspy vocals and foot stomping melodies highlight its rustic punk charm. Recorded at Mammoth Studios, the album finds the busking foursome embracing a more electric sound versus its normal live band studio work. Speaking of foursome, the makeup of RBB will soon change as founding member and vocalist Victor Castillo relocates the project out west to pursue future music opportunities in Colorado. In the mean time, the single is currently streaming on Bandcamp while all proceeds from track sales will be donated to Black Love Resist in the Rust. Listen to[...]

Tonight: Rust Belt Brigade

One must pay dues in life, and that certainly holds true for the music scene. The two acts taking to the stage at Nietzsche’s tonight are paid in full. Both The Rust Belt Brigade and 20,000 Strongmen forged their respective paths through the time honored tradition of busking. This helped the Rust Belt Brigade transform from a punk-duo to a four piece Americana band with strong rhythms and a swamp folk style vocal. Meanwhile, 20,000 Strongmen, headed by everyone’s favorite banjo picker Mike Strongman, sound as though they just stepped off a back porch of 1940’s Appalachia. Leave your technology at home tonightand enjoy music stripped down to its bare bones being played by the finest acoustic musicians Buffalo has to offer. $5 at the door and the show starts at 8:30pm. Rust Belt Brigade Release Spin on “Low Bridge (Erie Canal)”

Buffalo’s own Rust Belt Brigade have released a new single from their forthcoming release Rhythm & Roll. This track is their take on the classic regional folk tune “Low Bridge (Erie Canal),” a song familiar to many of those who’ve attended grade school in western New York. Originally a folk-punk duo, Rust Belt Brigade is shifting its sound slightly, blending in new influences from the world of bluegrass roots. The band now includes a bassist and a banjo player, while this song features local violinist Sally Schaefer. The music is as rustic and lilting as you’d expect from a classic folk group, while still maintaining the group punk side. Lead singer Victor Castillo’s raspy, half-shout voice gives this centuries old dirge a new anthemic edginess. Rhythm & Roll is set for release on December 16th, with a release show happening on December 2nd at Nietzsche’s. In the meantime, check out Rust Belt Brigade’s[...]
