Passed Out – The Aforementioned and How It Pertains to Absolutely Nothing…

The Aforementioned and How It Pertains to Absolutely Nothing…, the new 18-minute album from Buffalo indie punk quintet Passed Out, is a no-holds-barred effort laced with fast-paced rhythms and clever turns of phrase. The opener, “Bukowski and Brautigan” is a single minute in length, but it should manage to touch any listener lyrically or at least make them jitter around the room. It’s carried into the next tune, a more subdued track, by way of feedback. This one, entitled “…and in Doing So” is a clever song speaking of a relationship under the guise of an endless, extremely cold winter. “Aimless Endeavor” is another less turbulent song, save for a brief guitar solo and the last 30 seconds, which consists of heavy blows of instruments and vocals. “Summer Thing” shows traces of both The Cure and The Clash in its tough exterior but vulnerable core, as thinly veiled jabs are[...]

Tonight: The Ambulanters

Brit alternative band from Nebraska The Ambulanters drop by Milkie’s tonight to coincidentally play the release party for local psych/surf rockers Passed Out’s latest EP with David Dondero, Bold Folly, The Good Neighbors, and Passed Out, obviously. The fellas in Passed Out are back with the Aforementioned and How it Pertains to Absolutely Nothing, produced by Deadwolf’s Cody Morse and mixed by Elliot (M.A.G.S., KIN) Douglass, and lead single “Bukowski & Brautigan” is a literate and crunchy hit and run jam that you really ought to listen to right now. Please note The Ambulanters are not British in any way, but their sound is straight up British alternative, heavy on Joy Division and The Smiths, which is mighty tasty filtered through the band’s unassuming Midwestern lens.  Also hailing from the Midwest, Minneapolis songwriter David Dondero is in town in support of his latest album Inside The Cat’s Eye, while additional local support will[...]

Passed Out - Bukouski & Brautigan

Passed Out Release New Single “Bukouski & Brautigan”

Local darlings, Passed Out are gearing up to shake things  up with their new single, “Bukouski & Brautigan”. The new single comes off their upcoming EP, The Aforementioned and How it Pertains to Absolutely Nothing. The song is a strong showing for the band. Their sound continues to solidify form into a cohesive ball of punk rock force. “Bukouski & Brautigan” is full to the brim with wailing guitars over a twitching, fast paced set of drums. Acting as the cohesive glue, the vocals are in your face while staying poignant. Take a listen to the single below, and check out more of Passed Out over on their Bandcamp.

Rochester by way of Los Angeles trippy as hell slackrock outfit SLUGS will be laying down their enigmatic vibes tonight  when they return to Mohawk Place. Founded by brother-sister combo Marissa and James Longstreet, the two were staples in the Rochester music scene, performing under their electro-pop project High Drags. SLUGS is a bit of a change in pace from the hyper pop earlier workings, but still on par in substance. Sewing Souls is set to be a real rager with a stacked bill this evening. Coming out from Rochester will be math-rock/pop-punk outfit, Taking Meds. Filling out the night’s roster are Alleys, a punk/emo group that showcase solid guitar compositions and a high octane energy, Passed Out, who just released their newest single, “the inverse is true,” and Slow Cooker, who always bring it with fast, solid tunes that mash up surfer rock that sounds like it’s been dragged through the mud and back. Tonight: Passed Out

Tonight in what might be one of the jarringly different billings in recent memory, Passed Out will headline the afterparty for autotune superstar, T-Pain. But more importantly, local aggressive indie rockers, Passed Out will be premiering their debut EP, ‘Infinite Regresssion; a collection of panicked emo anthems that wouldn’t feel out of place on a Desaparecidos album. Lead singer, Andy Pothier has been a noteable mainstay in the local scene for awhile with well-regarded acts like Pine Fever and Deadwolf, so his new venture is well worth checking out. Passed Out recently released single, “Winnipeg,” as a thrilling teaser of what’s to come, with plenty more in store tonight. But they’re not alone, joining them are local singer-songwriter, Sonny Baker, the hardcore punk sounds of Albany’s Throat Culture, Rochester garage rock slackers, Total Yuppies, and the raucous noise punk antics of GLOVE. It’s such a great bill that as T-Pain would say[...]

Passed Out Share New Single Off Forthcoming EP

Passed Out is the aggressive hat that lead singer Andy Pothier wears when penning frustrated call-out anthems. The Buffalo-based songwriter has been an integral part of the area’s growing scene, regularly playing the circuit with his folk-y introspective solo jams as a singer/songwriter, as well as the percussionist for swamp buskers, Pine Fever and psych-rock act Deadwolf. Late last week, Passed Out dropped their new single “Winnipeg” off of their forthcoming EP, Infinite Regression. Immediately, “Winnipeg’s” intro is reminiscent of The Anniversary’s “Till We Earned a Holiday.” The track is all about a $20 hockey bet backed by an aggressive Japandroids-esque hyper abrasive backing. Fans of Bright Eyes and Desaparecidos will enjoy the vocal style and arrangement on this one. The band describe themselves as “very sad, then happy, then very sad again” and they definitely follow that formula with “Winnipeg.” Keep Passed Out on your radar for their release show on Thursday, August 18th[...]

Tonight: Comfy

Yace Booking is having one hell of a weekend. After the “Golf Pop” extravaganza at Dreamland tonight, please head straight to Nietzsche’s for an incredible lineup showcasing Utica buzz-magnets Comfy. Comfy specializes in that special sort of self-deprecating indie rock; think a lo-fi version of Weezer’s Blue Album with all the shredding and ooh-oohs you can stomach. Support tonight comes from Modest Mousy newcomers Passed Out, Sonny Baker’s solo project, and the Geneseo-based Comfy contemporaries in Soft Cough. Doors are at 9pm, music starts at 10pm. Bring $5 and be sure to tip your bartender.
