MAH KEE OH – “Twist”

We’ve been vibing on the low-key indie meanderings of Dallas-based recording project MAH KEE OH (aka Grahm Robinson). Robinson uses a unique recording technique using only a four-track cassette recorder and three microphones, resulting in the ultra-tight mix you hear on our latest obsession, “Twist.” Bringing to mind the dark indie rock of Pinback or early Death Cab for Cutie, “Twist” spirals through it’s four-minute existence with twinkles of melodic guitar wandering basslines, and a super soothing piano presence. It’s set off by Robinson’s gentle vocal melodies that haunt the track with their ghostly presence. Check it out below, or better yet, swing by Bandcamp and pick up a digital download. Supermilk – “Pelican Pete”

Supermilk (aka Jake Popyura) caught our ears with the irresistible guitar-pop of his newest single, “Pelican Pete.” Reminiscent of Weezer’s early output or guitar-pop bands like Superchunk or Ozma, “Pete” combines crunchy guitars with a strong vocal hook and a charming bedroom-esque mix. The result is this quick and dirty little pop tune that’s been haunting our brains all week long. Check it out below, it’s also on Spotify. specialistsubject · SUPERMILK – Pelican Pete

The Sunshine State – “Dating a Drug Dealer”

You might recognize The Sunshine State better as Skyler Stonestreet – the author of top hits by artists like Ariana Grande & Justin Bieber; Dua Lipa; Lennon Stella; The Chainsmokers; Marshmello; Hailee Steinfeld; and many more… But we’re here to draw attention to “Dating a Drug Dealer” – it’s a sunny, jangly indie pop tune full of chiming guitars, swirly synths, and an earworm chorus about letting yourself be loved. We think this one is gonna make its way onto your playlists – check it out below, it’s also on Spotify. The Sunshine State · The Sunshine State – Dating A Drug Dealer

Graham Grease – “Teething”

Graham Grease is a brand new band from Washington DC – their latest offering, “Teething” immediately caught our ears for its use of visceral emotion, ultra-sincere vocals, and raw delivery. With the ear-catching discordance of Pile, the eternal-slacker vibes of Pavement, and grittiness of early Nirvana, we’re sure GG is going to immediately captivate you too. “Teething” is up now on Spotify – make sure you check it out there too. Aeroplane Mode – “In A State”

We’ve been jamming all week on this swimmy indie rocker from Melbourne-based quartet Aeroplane Mode. “In A State” has all the hallmarks of indie rock greatness: swirly guitar plunking; reverbed out vocals; shimmering keyboard accents; and a driving beat. We think this one has some crossover appeal – fans of shoegaze, dream-pop, post-punk, and emo could also find something to love here. Check out the video below or stream it via Spotify.

Hayley Mary – “Would You Throw A Diamond?”

Here’s a raucous tune from Australia’s Hayley Mary – “Would You Throw a Diamond?” is a rip-roaring, pop-grunge affair that showcases singer Hayley Mary at her finest. You may recognize her as the frontwoman of The Jezebels, but this solo outing seems to suit her just fine as well. Bringing to mind the attitude of Hole with a tinge of Americana-punk energy (think The Gaslight Anthem), “Diamond” feels both anthemic and rebellious all at once. Check out the video below – it’s available to listen in lots of places here.

Evripidis and His Tragedies x The Ballet – “Bitter”

Here’s a dope collab between Spain-based Evripidis and His Tragedies and US-based The Ballet… “Bitter” is a campy cocktail of romance, sardonic humor, and cynicism that feels both kitschy and deeply heartfelt simultaneously. Pairing lyrics about everlasting love with bouncy, smile-inducing synthpop flavor, “Bitter” is perfect for dancing the night away. We’ve embedded a YouTube vid for you to enjoy below, but if Spotify is more your preferred platform you can also check out the song there.

Lashes – “When The Internet Calls”

Here’s a dope one from funky new-wave act Lashes. This Nova Scotia based duo got us moving and grooving with their latest offering, “When The Internet Calls”. They pair stark baritone vocals with a slappy, nu-disco bass line and a twinkling flute keyboard riff. The result is something mysterious, danceable, catchy and sparkly, just how we like our synthpop. Check it out below on Bandcamp – they are also on Spotify if that’s more your thing. The Gama Sennin – “I Kill You”

If you ever needed an impressive pedigree from a post-punk act, The Gama Sennin has got you more than covered. Led by frontman Kevin McGuire, TGS also features members of Oingo Boingo, OFF!, and The Muppets(!), with a production team that includes members behind Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories. The result is “I Kill You,” a five-minute blast of discordant guitars, distorted instrumentals, and unbridled emotion. This one is as much desert rock as it is angry psychedelia; it should appeal to anyone from METZ to The Black Angels to Queens of the Stone Age and everything in between. Check it out for yourself – it’s also on Spotify.

dad sports – “nrvs again”

Ottawa’s dad sports specialize in lighthearted bedroom-pop; their latest offering, the quirky “nrvs again” recently caught our ears for its undeniably infectious energy. The video follows a girl as she frolics in solitude – “nrvs” is the perfect accompaniment, with it’s frantic Casio drumbeat and springy riffiness, it’s bound to make you want to jump around as well. Watch the vid below for some visual delight, or add it to your Spotify playlist for prolonged excitement.

A Paper Corner – “I Don’t Know”

Loving this dreamy, bedroom-pop jam from Colorado-based project A Paper Corner. “I Don’t Know” is built around a call-and-response keyboard riff that bounces back and forth with a captivating urgency. It’s padded with spaced-out vocals and a funky slap bass accompaniment. We think fans of Porches, Washed Out, or Tame Impala are going to love this one as much as we did – check out the DIY vid below and be sure to swing by Spotify to add it to your playlists.

TOLEDO – “You Won’t”

NYC duo TOLEDO are no strangers to buffaBLOG – we were digging them all the way back in 2018 with their dreamy, creamy ode to the passage of time, “Hot Stuff.” They’re back again with another delightfully atmospheric indie pop jam called “You Won’t.” Fans of Hovvdy, Phoebe Bridgers, or Whitney are going to love this one – with hooks aplenty underneath a backbone of simmering, dreamy-pop goodness, “Won’t” will soothe you (while also getting stuck firmly in your head). Check it out below – it’s also on Spotify. TOLEDO · You Won’t

Dead Slow Hoot – “Taller Tree”

London’s Dead Slow Hoot coming through with the swirly post-punk flavor of “Taller Tree.” Featuring a bevy of chorus-laden guitar whirls, a super-tight drum sound, and a perfectly-monotone vocal delivery, “Taller Tree” feels like the moody step-child of Joy Division and The National. This one is dark, anthemic, and poetic – naturally, we feel inclined to share it with you. Check out “Taller Tree” below – it’s also on Spotify. Dead Slow Hoot · Taller Tree

Jesop – “My Daily Existential Crisis”

We’ve all been there… You’re minding your own business and then out of nowhere, your thoughts get way too real and you have an existential crisis right there on the spot. Jesop has encapsulated that anxious neurosis on his latest jam, “My Daily Existential Crisis.” Juxtaposed effortlessly against an urgent backbone of noisy dream-pop, “Crisis” fully dissects the doom spiral of a panic attack while also being fully and surprisingly pleasant to listen to. We think this one checks all the boxes – check it out below, support it via Bandcamp, or stream it using Spotify. Jesop · My Daily Existential Crisis

HARMS – “Devil Vs. Cherub”

There’s something delightfully unsettling about HARMS’ new single, “Devil Vs. Cherub…” Maybe it’s the huge, industrial-tinged guitar fuzz, but it could also be the almost-cacophonous chord progression. Maybe it’s the post-punk anguish of the Cure-esque, breaking-up vocal delivery. Either way, “Cherub” caught out ears for it’s one-of-a-kind feel and raucous individualism.
