Herd Fest 2017 Dates Announced, Applications Open

Today we are psyched to announce the dates and opening of applications for Herd Fest 2017. Entering it’s fourth year, this year’s Herd Fest  begins on Thursday, June 15th, 2017 and ends on Sunday, June 18th 2017.  Much like last year, we will be centralizing the application process over on Herd Fest’s website in order to streamline submissions. Herd Fest 2016 had over a thousand attendees, 14 showcases, and about 70 acts playing live over the course of the festival. This year we plan on expanding our showcases and centralizing venue locations. If you are interested in sponsoring the festival or have any proposals to make this event sweeter, e-mail herdfest@gmail.com.

Gone Fishing

We’ve been updating buffaBLOG pretty much daily or every other day for the past almost six years. In that time we have exclusively written about hundreds of local/regional bands, curated many many nights with our show previews, and spent thousands of hours thinking about and discussing music from Buffalo, Rochester, and beyond. We are all volunteers over here, and I’ll be the first to admit it, fatigue has set in. We need to take a bit of a break. We will be back with one or two major posts this month, and then returning with our regularly scheduled program on Saturday, January 30th at Milkie’s where we will have our second installment of Taking Back Saturday Emo Night featuring guest DJs Dennis Ferry (THIS IS AN EMPIRE), Jay Zubricky (GCR Audio), and Kevin Scoma (Mandy K). Here’s a music video of an impressive new rapper out of Buffalo called Neese Rich. See ya’ll in about[...]

Yung Lean Announces Release Date for Debut Album

Swedish cloud-rap sensation, Yung Lean, has come back from his first-ever tour with big news. In the cryptic video below, the commander of the Sad Boys reveals that his debut album, Unknown Memory, is coming later this month on the 23rd. Unknown Memory is the follow up to Unknown Death 2002, the mixtape that made waves last year with it’s beautifully spacious production, ridiculous flow and lyricism, and some of the funniest music videos in recent memory. Lean is the yung face of one of the biggest movements in the hip-hop subculture, an artist that be perceived as a joke and a legitimate talent at the same time. Can he take another leap with this album, jumping from internet darling to a recognizable name? Probably not, but perhaps. RiFF RaFF went with Katy Perry to the VMAs after his debut album, Neon Icon, this year, so who’s to say we won’t see Lean sitting[...]

Punks or Terrorists

The life of a small venue booking agent can be a trying one at best. You book the show and promote the show. If there’s a low turnout, you foot the bill, and you have to deal with your neighbors and the local authorities accusing you of harboring terrorist. The latter was the real life of St. Petersburg, FL booking agent and promoter, Kat Lynes. On Sunday June 29th, a concerned neighbor of Lynes’, Keith Coleman, called the police after he saw what he considered to be suspicious individuals, three men and three girls coming out of Lynes’ apartment. The ‘nefarious’ looking individuals were members of Nevada punk band, Vampirates. They had played a show at St. Petersburg’s Fubar the night before, a venue Lynes books shows at regularly. As per their agreement, Lynes had supplied them lodging at her apartment. Coleman had mistakenly had thought he had seen a[...]
