Must See Shows (8/6/25-8/12/25)

Wednesday, August 6th @ 7pm Amateur Hockey Club @ The Caz   In between throwing beers at each other to guess the brand and releasing their brand new single, “Uppercase,” local pop-punk act Amateur Hockey Club has managed to squeeze in a mid-week show to appease the demand from AHC Nation. Since forming in 2017, Amateur Hockey Club has steadily become a fixture in the local pop-punk and emo scene, cranking out quality material and sharing the stage on many of the top bills with local showcases. Fans of Hot Mulligan, Knuckle Puck, or Microwave would be into this one.   Joining the band will be local pop-rock act Orange Zest and alt-rockers Good Monster. Mookie – “Energy”

If you’ve been keeping your ears to the Allen St., then indie-pop act Mookie should already be on your radar. Since forming just over a year ago, the band has been consistently on the grind playing local line-ups and adding their jangly energy to the bills. Earlier this month, Mookie released a video for their first single “Energy,” which was filmed at popular queer bar, TwentySixAllen. The song “Energy” is all about the early stages of a romance and navigating the line of excitement and vulnerability.  Sound-wise, the track is accessible, fun, and catchy, much like lead guitarist / singer Russell Leone’s previous work in Sofa Kings, who buzzed around Buffalo in the later 2010s.  Mookie could be compared to San Cisco, Rilo Kiley, or Frankie Cosmos with their upbeat, bounce-y vibes. Wednesday, July 23rd @ 7pm Samantha Crain @ 9th Ward   Chocktaw-American singer/songwriter/multi-hyphenate Samantha Crain returns to Buffalo for an intimate basement show on Delaware Ave. Wednesday. Touring in support of their latest length album Gumshoe, their stop at the 9th Ward is at the tail end of a US and Canadian Tour that has been at full throttle since early May. Fans of Waxahatchee, First Aid Kit or Bonnie Prince Billy would be pleased as punch for this one. Wednesday, July 17th @ 7pm Claimed Choice @ Caffe at Amy’s   International touring punk act Claimed Choice makes a stop in for a mid-week pick-me-up. The Lyons-based French oi-punk act is touring in support of their new self-titled album. Fans of Turbo Negro, New York Dolls, or even locals Nervous Tick and the Zipper Lips would be into this one. Rounding out the bill will be support from local rock and rollers Sweet Talker and pop punkers Pilot-Field. $15 cover or pay what you can. sundayclub – “Bannatyne”

Hazy Manitoba duo sundayclub have a dreamy new single “Bannatyne” which pairs well with this dreary morning in Western New York. The band’s aura encapsulates the transition in life from minimal responsibility youthfulness and being lost as a young adult, with “Bannatyne” fitting well within the the umbrella. Specifically, “Bannatyne” covers the excitement and nervousness of a new relationship with a light, bedroom pop backing.  Fans of Soccer Mommy, Snail Mail, or Japanese Breakfast would be into this one. Check out the video for “Bannatyne” on YouTube and be on the lookout for these guys. With this being the band’s first single, sundayclub has a pretty promising jumpstart.  

Kisu Min – “Je Suis”

Polish quartet Kisu Min have a new single out that’s been dominating our office speakers since it’s release on Friday. Formed in 2016, the band has been pumping out consistent post-punk indie tinged jams with “Je Suis” following suit. The band’s latest track tackles the subject of struggle and uncertainty, a theme we can all relate to in these trying times in the world.  The bounce-y “Je Suis” is off the band’s forthcoming album, Rudolf Steiner House, will be out at the end of September via their label Antena Krzyku. Zach Bailey x Rachel Baldwin – “Knock Knock”

Pop rock producer Zach Bailey debuted a new track last week, collaborating with singer Rachel Baldwin for a fresh spin on a 2025 love triangle. Their latest team effort, “Knock Knock” is about two friends finding out they share the same romantic interest, finding out, and ultimately dumping his ass. Vibe-wise the track has a bit of an early 2000s teen comedy movie vibe sprinkled with Carly Rae Jepsen’s self-awareness. Check the track out below and give Zach Bailey a follow over on Insta.

Meagher – “Shake”

Baltimore-based songwriter/producer Meagher is hitting the ground running the summer, with over four singles released in the month of June already. This isn’t your average “musician releases a song once a week” thing that many in the industry are doing – these songs are bops. Three of these singles have already landed with Spotify playlist gurus who featured the tracks on their Discovery Weekly picks Meagher is the moniker for producer/songwriter Christopher Meagher, who has been a creative since childhood. On June 26th, Meagher released his new indie-pop single “Shake” which is already turning heads and nestling in playlists.  “Shake” is upbeat indie-pop track with deep emotional undertones, inspired by rejection and self-reflection. garbagepink – “danish design”

Swedish electro-pop one-woman act garbagepink has a fresh new single released this morning titled “danish design.” The Swedish songstress is no newcomer to the blogosphere, as she has had stints in I don’t speak french, Swedish Red Elephant, and Stranded Mermaid. In her latest single “danish design,” garbagepink gives directions to a potential suitor, listing all the checks needed in order to get on her good side which includes bringing snacks over flowers, not smoking inside, and not touching her playlist. Seems simple enough. Fans of Joywave, Metric, or Phantogram would be into garbagepink’s accessible electro-pop melodies. Check it out below.

Babsy. – “Gorgeous”

We’re less than a week into the summer, and we already have an early contender for pool-side bop of the season. Enter Babsy., an electro producer who just dropped the buzzing new single “Gorgeous” earlier this morning. Babsy. has been around the block, producing from Thousand Oaks, California for close to a decade. He has gained notoriety from his viral remixes for Fleetwood Mac, Ellie Goulding, and Louis the Child. “Gorgeous” continues the trajectory with a chill electronica EDM groove complete with swelling synths and a heavy 4/4 beat coupled pleasant bounce. Lyrics wise this song is all about appreciation and admiration for a significant other. Put it on your bluetooth and jump in the pool.   Lost In Dreams · Babsy. – Gorgeous

Thursday, June 26th @ 7pm The Surfrajettes @ Sportsmen Club   Toronto retro surf act The Surfrajettes showcase their summer-y sounds Thursday night in Black Rock.  Buffalo loves a band with a gimmick and The Surfrajettes can pull it off as they portray a group of 60s beach boppers. The four-piece has been steadily attracting fans with their intricate guitar work and upbeat shows since 2015. Friday, June 13th Perfume Genius @ Electric City   Art-pop crooner Perfume Genius makes a stop Friday night for an undoubtedly gripping performance in the Theatre District. Perfume Genius is the performing name for Iowa native Mike Hadreas and his rotating cast of musicians who have been performing under the project name since 2008. The band has connected with their fans largely in part to Hadreas’ vulnerable lyrics and commanding story telling.   The band touring in support of their critically acclaimed album, Glory, which came out in the tail end of March. If you are a fan of Sufjan Stevens, Andy Shauf, or Arcade Fire, this is up your alley. Wednesday, June 4th @ 7pm Sunny Day Real Estate @ Electric City   Second wave emo forefathers Sunny Day Real Estate hit the big stage at Electric City for a night of nostalgic feels mid-week. Formed in Seattle, Washington in 1992, the band has been credited for the recipe and rise of the Midwest emo sound. Sunny Day has been inspired many of the movers and shakers in the third wave of emo and early to mid 2000s pop punk fields, serving as a major influence and inspiration on their songwriting styles. If you’re a fan of The Get Up Kids, The Promise Ring, or Appleseed Cast then you already know about Sunny Day Real Estate and you already have your ticket most likely. Thursday, May 29th @ 7pm Keep Flying @ Rec Room   Since 2015, high energy pop punk/ska hybrid act Keep Flying has been consistently pumping out Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater adjacent singalong anthems that have been hooking listeners throughout their tenure. The outfit may already be in your periphery as they have been regularly touring Western NY between Buffalo and Fredonia for close to a decade. If you are fan of Less Than Jake, Four Year Strong, or Millington, this one is for you.   This gig has a great undercard as well, featuring Buffalo post-hardcore act Gatto Black (who also released one of our favorite albums in 2024). Wednesday, May 21st @ 7pm Low Cut Connie @ Town Ballroom   Philly-based vintage rock and rollers Low Cut Connie play mid-week in the Theatre District. Since forming in 2010, the project has evolved from the early days of playing karaoke bars and honky tonks to getting the presidential rub by landing a slot on President Obama’s coveted Spotify playlist. Fans of J. Roddy Walston and the Business, King Tuff, or Har Mar Superstar would be enthralled with LCC’s encapsulating lyrics and their twangy, no-frills western saunter.
