1809 Studios Releases Latest Session feat. MD Woods

The 1809 Sessions series has been quietly building up an eclectic collection of installments featuring bands from in and out of the Rochester area for nearly a year now. Next up to bat for the Macedon based studio is sister city folk act MD Woods, the ongoing project from singer/songwriter Nicholas Lee Moore. Moore made waves at the blog office earlier this summer when he released the fantastic second installment of his Young & Vain series, and just today, his stark performance of “Low and Behold” at the 1809 Studios was released. Take a few mins to catch up on the entire lineup of past 1809 Session clips here, but first, watch MD Wood’s session below.

MD Woods Drops Volume Two of Young & Vain Series

“Folk” has gotten a bad rap lately. It’s easy to blame bands like Mumford and Sons and Of Monsters and Men—some of the so-called pioneers of the neo-folk movement—for saturating the genre with their pseudo-inspirational pop-folk tedium, formulaic songs custom-tailored for the mainstream. (Does M&S bashing ever really go out of style?) But mainstream disenchantment aside, folk is just one of those genres I can’t help but hold near and dear to my heart. The truthfulness of a good folk song is a special weakness of mine, and it’s refreshing to know that some artists can still do the ill-fated genre a little justice. With that said, it is my pleasure to introduce Young & Vain Vol. 2, the newest release from Rochester singer-songwriter MD Woods. Building on the warm and earnest foundations of last year’s Vol. 1, Vol. 2 delivers four more solid tracks to Woods’ four-part Young &[...]

MD WOODS Drops First Single From Young and Vain 2. EP

Winter usually kicks my seasonal folk obsession into high gear so I was pleased to see that stand out Rochester folkie, MD WOODS, dropped the first single from his forthcoming album, the sequel to his summer released Young and Vain 1. EP, earlier this week. On the passionate “Finally in Love,” WOODS’ pleading and somewhat broken down vocals recall Heartbreaker and Gold era Ryan Adams, so if that peaks your interest, give the song a spin. “Finally in Love,” which can be streamed below, will be featured on Young and Vain 2. in the near future.

MD WOODS Releases First Installment of Young and Vain Series

Early last month, Rochester folk act, MD WOODS, released the first installment of a four-part series titled Young and Vain. Part 1, logically titled Young and Vain 1., is four tracks of sparse, haunting folk that fans of Bonnie Prince Billy, Amen Dunes, and the Low Anthem would be wise to check out. No word on when Part 2 will be released, but you can follow MD WOODS bandcamp page to keep an eye out. In the mean time, listen to Part 1 standout “Bird” below.
