Tonight: The Joy Formidable

Tonight The Joy Formidable takes the stage at Buffalo’s Rec Room to rock your faces clean off as they wrap up their North American tour. This North Wales trio means business with their wonderfully deafening and melodic indie rock records. Badass lead singer and guitarist Ritzy Bryan leads the charge with beautiful, ethereal vocals and emotionally charged and dictated riffs. Supporting Bryan and adding their own textures to the captivating soundscape are buzzing bassist Rhydian Dafydd and calamitous drummer Justin Stahley. Expect a live wire set that includes tracks off their latest album AAARTH. Opening the night are special guests and hometown rock ‘n’ rollers, The Eaves. Tonight prolific singer-songwriter-guitar wizard, Ty Segall, unplugs for a special set as part of his solo acoustic tour at Buffalo Iron Works. Tonight: They Might Be Giants

World-touring veteran alt-rockers, They Might Be Giants, take the stage at Buffalo’s Town Ballroom tonight in support of their new album, I Like Fun. Perhaps best known for their defiant theme song for the TV show, Malcom in the Middle, TMBG was formed by childhood friends John Flansburgh and John Linnell back in 1982. With a DIY attitude and tireless work ethic, the duo released their official debut, Flood, in 1990 and grew into cult sensations thanks to catchy melodies and idiosyncratic lyrics. Tonight: Mohawk Halloween

Under tonight’s creepy full moon, Buffalo’s Mohawk Place transforms into a rockin’ haunted house party as they host their annual and ghoulishly fun Halloween bash featuring local favorites and former local favorites. This stacked line-up has something for every ghost and ghoul. If you like to shake your bones to freaky electronica that’s been experimented on more than Frankenstein’s Monster, show up for the buzzworthy Space Cubs, immersive Bottler and hair-raising Lesionread. However, for those who prefer something they could run from a knife-wielding lunatic to, sink your fangs into the awesomely deranged psych-rock of Bold Folly. Tonight: Social Distortion

Legendary greaser punk rockers, Social Distortion, roll through Buffalo’s Main Street tonight to rock Town Ballroom as part of their cross-country tour. Having stood the test of time since their inception in 1978, Social D is the Cadillac of the original SoCal punk movement. The seemingly invincible singer and guitarist, Mike Ness, has led the group through a storied three decade run and pioneered an invigorating throwback punk rock ‘n’ roll sound with rockabilly style. Throw on your whitest tee, slick your hair back and don’t miss this once in a lifetime chance to see Ness strum his Les Paul and croon jukebox classics like “Story of My Life” and the Johnny Cash cover, “Ring of Fire.” Opening acts include Will Hoge and Pony Bradshaw. Formed in New Jersey in 2005, singer-songwriter, Patrick Stickles, leads this rousing quintet with an unmistakable wild man voice that’s impassioned and rough as sandpaper. After years of silence, the group has returned with a new full-length, A Productive Cough, and the All Hallows’ Eve EP, Home Alone on Halloween. Redbeard Samurai Drops Visuals for Debut Single “Turn it Up”

Get your body movin’ as Rochester soul-hop artist, Redbeard Samurai, drops the visuals for his absolutely banging debut single, “Turn it Up.” Off his upcoming concept album, Second, the promising emcee cooks up a funky mix of soul, jazz and hip-hop influences over slice and dice rhymes for a fantastically fun, full-blown party track. Cursive – “Under the Rainbow”

Veteran and celebrated post-hardcore indie rockers, Cursive, are back after years of silence with the raucously nihilistic anthem, “Under the Rainbow.” Found on their upcoming studio LP, Vitriola, this isn’t so much a call to action as it is the venting of anger and frustration over the current state of affairs. Lead singer and guitarist, Tim Kasher, lashes out at income inequality on this particular track and clashes with grippingly melodic car crash instrumentals. Dangermaker – “Pressure”

San Francisco four-piece, Dangermaker, uploads the glitchy visuals for their wonderfully retro and instantly addictive electro-pop track, “Pressure.” Off their upcoming sophomore LP, Run, this ultimo dance record is stuffed with laser show synths, livewire riffs and mesmerizing vocals. Sleepy Orange – “Big Fish”

New-on-the-scene indie rock quartet, Sleepy Orange, make a splash with the video for their breezy debut single, “Big Fish.” This sunny soft rock track features island riffs that lap like waves as gentle vocals rock you like a hammock. However there are a few clouds in this musical paradise with overcast lyrics that ruminate over “big dreams, small town” frustrations, which add to the song’s dynamic.
