Tonight: Landlady

Brooklyn’s Landlady will headline Mohawk Place tonight accompanied by Buffalo favorites Aircraft, Bryan Johnson & Family, and the JUST added Wax Mice. The New York natives are lead by Adam Schatz, the eccentric driving force behind the bands art-rock sound. The group is highly accredited, as its most recent album Upright Behavior was not only reviewed on Pitchfork, but received a positive rating of 7.4. Landlady has a unique sound, often including wind instruments, violin, and alike. Upright Behavior is the band’s first full length album, but its EP, Keeping to Yourself, might be the group’s strongest work, with distinction between songs, and in many ways a better understanding of themselves as artists. I’m not saying Upright Behavior sucks, I’m just pissed many have hailed it as the better work. Landlady’s “old stuff” has just as much to offer. Tonight is not just a night of music.  It is also a fundraiser for[...]

Just Announced: Landlady

We are having one of those slow days in the office again, just staring out the window, watching Buffalo continue to freeze, but luckily, an under-the-radar show just got added to the Mohawk Place calendar that we think is worth your attention. Brooklyn’s off kilter Landlady, a band which combines elements of Dirty Projects, TV on the Radio, and Yellow Ostrich, will be making its return to Buffalo on Wednesday, April 22nd, at Mohawk Place. Those in attendance at the Silo Sessions launch party this past summer saw the five-piece put on a stunning performance as the sun set along side the grain elevators while on tour in support of the fantastic 2014 release, Upright Behavior. Speaking of Silo Sessions, the show is in support of a new collaborative project between the video series and the Public, so keep an eye out for further details. Tickets are available (we think), and[...]

Landlady – “Girl”

Fresh off one of the stand out performances of the Silo Sessions Launch Party last month, Brooklyn buzz act, Landlady, have released the latest single from their forthcoming album Upright Behavior. The driving song, which sounds like a nice blend of Peter Gabriel, Future Islands, and Sunset Rubdown, continues to enforce the band’s captivating, if not off beat, blend of jagged, toe tapping indie-rock. Those who caught the band’s set under the shadows of the grain mills a few weeks ago can certainly vouch. Upright Behavior is set to drop on July 15th, but in the mean time, listen to “Girl” below. Landlady – “The Globe”

Brooklyn’s Landlady has been catching a buzz since their impressive showing at last month’s SXSW festival/indie mecca. This week the band released it’s first single, “The Globe,” from the upcoming full-length titled, Upright Behavior. “The Globe” is disjointed and has an unpredictable song structure, meanwhile sounding like a pretty mix between a male-fronted Dirty Projectors and a more atmospheric Yellow Ostrich.
