Hypoluxo – “Nimbus”

Brooklyn quartet Hypoluxo have been through the ringer in the music biz… The fact that they’ve made it out still-standing is testament to their strength as a band. We think one listen to their latest offering, “Nimbus,” will confirm that for you. Beyond a nod as one of Stereogum’s top 5 songs of the week, “Nimbus” is a crushing post-punk jam full of start-stop guitar-based energy and impassioned vocals. Check out the vintage VHS vibes of their music video below, or if Spotify is more your speed, check it out there.

Hypoluxo - Sewing Souls

Tonight: Hypoluxo

It’s summer. It’s hot. It’s humid and you’re jonesing to get out and do something. Brooklyn act Hypoluxo will be playing at Sewing Souls to help you get that energy out. Having dropped their LP, If Language back in September, the four piece is back with a tight collection of songs in the form of their new EP, Taste Buds, releasing this August. The band came together and started making music while in Brooklyn, but it’s where each of the band members are from that’s really had an impact on their sound. Hailing from parts of Florida and LA, Hypoluxo’s sound has a laid back attitude and echoes Beat Happening a bit. Playing alongside Hypoluxo will be psych rockers, Deadwolf who are coming off their crazy show on Sunday, noise pop act, Suburbs, and locals, Planet Three. Doors are at 7pm. $5 at the door for the touring band. Taste Buds by Hypoluxo

Tonight: Yellow House Tape Release

Scumbag Booking presents Yellow House (members consist of those from Skateboard, Love Canal, and Tomoreaux) at Dreamland this evening. Yellow House fronts shoegaze rock that will keep you bouncing off each others’ shoulders. The group is releasing their first album, Songs from Limbo, via cassette tape. The trio is backed by The Slums, Hypoluxo, and the Sonny Baker Band. As expected, The Slums will pound the hell out of your ears and brain. Hypoluxo is a dreamy post-punk group from Brooklyn. Though they keep it lighter than the others on the roster, they float unsteadily enough to stir you up and mesh with the lineup. Sonny Baker is a local favorite who reinvents the work of those like J Mascis. The fuzziness of Flesh It Out will be sure to stoke the fire. The show is at Dreamland and is at 7pm. Your night inside the building will end at 11pm. If you’re a kind soul,[...]

Hypoluxo – If Language

Drawing inspiration from bands like Beach Fossils, DIIV, and Told Slant, it isn’t difficult to figure out the hometown of new Broken Circles signees Hypoluxo. Further building on “that Brooklyn sound,” Hypoluxo’s new record, If Language, takes atmospheric dream pop and jangly post-punk guitar work to the next level with Sam Cogen’s captivating baritone. Comparisons to Matt Berninger are obvious; however, Hypoluxo prove themselves to be much more than “what it’d sound like if that guy from the National sang for Beach Fossils.” On first listen, songs like “Winter” and “Name Game” drift and lilt along as soundtracks to sleepy, freezing days indoors, while quicker paced songs such as the single “Directions” and album opener “Fronts” seem to hazily speed by like a cannabis-fueled summer road trip. What’s special about these moods, though, is their malleability. While those tracks appear as such at surface level, the band’s penchant for both[...]
