Slow Cooker – “Bird Flu”

Local punk/surf rock act, Slow Cooker, has released the second single off of their upcoming debut tape, titled Another Typo. “Bird Flu” is nothing short of rip roaring, with loud, angular guitar and shouted vocals throughout. The four piece really drives it home with the use repetition in all aspects of the song, especially with the repeated lyric “I’ve got bird flu” ringing in your ears from start to finish. The guitars, drums, and bass all come together to create something rushed and frantic sounding, pushing the listener to the brink on insanity, but in a good way. If you might like a less psych influenced Destruction Unit or the Buffalo act the Utah Jazz, this one is will be for you. After hearing the first two tracks the band has dropped, it seems their debut tape is surely shaping up to be something solid. You can check out the track below, and you[...]

AJJ at the Studio at Waiting Room (11/05/16)

Earlier this month,  Andrew Jackson Jihad played their first show in Buffalo since their name change, and it was packed.  On tour in support of their new album, The Bible 2, the folk punk veterans played a career spanning set to a full house at the Studio at Waiting Room.   They split the set between a full band set and a stripped down two piece set, performing cuts from their new album, among many others.  AJJ brought along Chris Farren and Diners as openers, and they both killed it as well.  Check out some photos from the show below, and click HERE for a full gallery. Yellow House Debuts Single “Human Error”

With the drop of the first track on their upcoming tape, we get a peek into the mind of Yellow House, and man, is it a great sample.  The way the band blends shoegaze and punk leads to something totally unique within the Buffalo music scene, and is simply put, rockin’. The two standout elements of “Human Error” are the vocals and the drums, with a driving, layered, yelled and softly sung vocal melody pairing up perfectly with blasting drums, unrelenting from start to finish.  Things get even more interesting when you check out the lyrics for the track, surpassing the very surface level type lyrics I have come to expect from local bands, these are seriously interesting and require thought to begin to understand. Without a doubt, you need to check out Yellow House.  This is one of my favorite tracks dropped in Buffalo this year without question, and I can’t wait to hear the[...]

Touche Amore at the Waiting Room (10/17/16)

Have you ever went to a show and been so blown away by an opener that the rest of the show just feels like a blur?  The band that kicked this show off, Culture Abuse, did just that.  One of the most rocking bands I have seen in a VERY long time.  They’re super hard to describe, but damn, you just gotta give them a listen.  Fear not though, Tiny Moving Parts and Touche Amore both still totally killed it.  For Touche Amore’s first show back in Buffalo in two or three years, what seems like every die hard TA fan in Buffalo took to the front of the stage for a set full of scream-alongs and crowd surfing.  Check out some shots from the night below, and click HERE for a full gallery. Metric at the Town Ballroom (9/23/16)

Metric is no stranger to Buffalo. Hailing from Toronto, the indie pop act has played plenty of shows in our area, but none quite as special as the show this past Friday.  Following a venue change from Artpark in Lewiston, the band played a rare and intimate club show at the Town Ballroom.  The band brought their full stage production with them as well, adding their own lighting rig to the mix, making the show that much more special.  Local act, Humble Braggers, had the opportunity to open up the show as well, and they killed it.  Check out some shots from the night below, and click HERE for a full gallery. Tonight: Del Paxton

There are plenty of options for gigs tonight, but it looks like Dreamland takes the cake.  While local boys Del Paxton will be closing out the night, there is a totally stacked lineup of touring acts, which make for plenty of reasons to come early.  Opening the night will be Buffalo hardcore act, Uniform OPR, followed by Opposites from Chicago, then Options also from Chicago, and Sneeze from Boston. Come early, as this show is going to be a packed one. Doors for the show are at 7pm, and bring 7 bucks for the three touring bands.  Check out Del Paxton’s first video from their upcoming Little Elephant session below, and get stoked.

Every Time I Die at the Studio at Waiting Room (9/17/16)

If you’re from Buffalo and haven’t at least heard of Every Time I Die, there’s something wrong with you. The five piece has built a huge following in Buffalo and beyond over the years, but their hometown shows are always something special, usually on the brink of pure insanity. On September 23rd, the band will be releasing their eighth studio album, Low Teens, and the band had a surprise in store for their fans last Saturday.  Originally planned as a listening party of the new album, the group came together last minute to treat Buffalo to something special, a performance of their new record front to back, before anyone else in the world had heard it, along with an encore with some of the classics. Luckily, blog photographer, Brendan O’Connor, was able to make it in with his camera and capture some of the madness that is a hometown Every[...]

This past Friday, UK pop punk act Basement made their way back to Buffalo for an incredible show the Connecticut 4 piece Ovlov, and Brooklyn indie act Eskimeaux. This was Basement’s first time back in Buffalo since they played the old Sugar City, on their first ever US tour.  Buffalo showed them a great time, and every band that played was stellar.  Check out some shots from the night below, and click here for a full gallery. Tonight: Basement

You might want to get down to the Studio at Waiting room tonight.  UK pop punk / alt /emo act Basement is making their triumphant return to our fine city tonight, fresh off the release of a new record, titled Promise Everything.  On tour with Basement is New York indie act, Eskimeaux, and the recently reunited Ovlov. If you caught Eskimeaux at Sugar City last year, you should know that Eskimeaux alone is worth the price of a ticket.  This is a gig you’re not going to want to miss. Doors open for the show at 6:30pm, with a showtime of 7:30pm. Tickets are $19 at the door, which is a small price to pay for this stacked bill.

Prince Daddy & the Hyena – I Thought You Didn’t Even Like Leaving

Do you like Bomb The Music Industry!? Do you like PUP? Do you like Weezer?  Do you like WEED? If you answered any of those questions, you should probably go put on I Thought You Didn’t Even Like Leaving by Prince Daddy & The Hyena.  Hailing from Albany, NY, the four piece has been ripping it up in the DIY circuit since the release of their two tapes, Skip Cutscenes! Blow Loud! and Adult Summers, which we loved. After signing with emo super label of sorts, Broken World Media, the group really started picking up speed. Simply put, I Thought You Didn’t Even Like Leaving somehow pulls off being a total fucking blast, while still tugging at the heartstrings. From the driving title track to the all too easy to relate to album closer, Really?, P Daddy takes no breaks. The album boasts nine brand spankin’ new tracks, as well as clean sounding re recordings[...]

Tonight: Alpha Hopper LP Release Show

Dreamland is most defintely going to be the place to be tonight.   Everyone’s favorite post punk freakers, Alpha Hopper, are finally releasing their LP tonight, and to celebrate, are having a stacked release show at Dreamland.  It is pretty tough to describe Alpha Hoppers unique sound, so you’re probably better off getting to the show and seeing for yourself.  The new full length, Last Chance Power Drive, is getting a physical vinyl release as well, which should be for sale at the show. The show will feature support from local heavy hitters, Space is Haunted, Trinkt, and Gun Candy. Doors open at Dreamland at 7pm, and with only a $5 cover, I can’t find a a better reason for you to go and celebrate what is sure to be one of the best Buffalo releases this year.

Motion City Soundtrack at the Town Ballroom (08/01/16)

Monday night, Motion City Soundtrack bid farewell to Buffalo on their final tour.   The band’s final tour spans the United States, and we were lucky enough to get a stop at the Town Ballroom to send them off right.  They played a career spanning set list containing all the hits and even a request or two.  What made this show extra special was the opening acts MCS brought along on the tour, Rozwell Kid and A Great Big Pile of Leaves, who both played totally incredible sets.  While it sucks to see them go, the show served as a perfect Buffalo sendoff.   Check out our photos from the night below, and click HERE for a full gallery.
