Tonight: Sugar City’s Two Part Anniversary Party

Tonight is the resurrection anniversary of Sugar City . Well, it’s not the ACTUAL anniversary, as the group has been around since 2009, then briefly went into a hiatus while searching for a new headquarters, then started a new headquarters, then ran into some construction setbacks, and then… Point is, Sugar City has called their Niagara St. location their home base for about two years. Entering their seventh year as a collective, the group has been responsible for bringing some of the best cultural events to Buffalo via art exhibits, concerts, comedy shows, and unique programming, while maintaining a safe and welcoming atmosphere to the public, and it’s time to celebrate. The celebration is programmed in two parts. Part one is at the Sugar City hideout at 1239 Niagara St. At 6pm, doors open for the gallery. At 7pm, music begins, with performances by Basement Rat, Chevron Bloom, Glove, Jason Martin[...]

Tonight: Worriers

Brooklyn’s Worriers will be making a stop in town tonight, headlining a basement show that should thrill punk fans who love all things heavy and loud. Joined by three Buffalo bands, Worriers are promoting their 2015 LP Imaginary Life, a record filled with Against Me! influenced indie-punk jams released via Don Giovanni Records. Two of the other acts featured will be celebrating new releases. Local punkers Basement Rat is releasing a cassette version of their album Pura Mujer. Also on the bill is On the Cinder, who will be celebrating the release of their latest album The Fight Against Ourselves. Rounding out the lineup is Grain Assault, who offer a chaotic brand of fast-paced punk. The show starts at 7pm at Hoyt House. Cover is $6 at the door, or free/pay what you can for under 18.

Tonight: SLUGS

LA rockers SLUGS make a triumphant return to WNY tonight as they swing through Mohawk Place tonight. Buffalo and Rochester natives might recognize Marissa and James Longstreet, formerly of High Drags fame. With roots in both Rochester and LA, the band specializes in slacker rock vibes a la Exile In Guyville-era Liz Phair, Courtney Barnett, or Colleen Green. Joining SLUGS tonight are the Buffalo punx in Basement Rat, the surf-punks in Slow Cooker, and Rochester indie pop royalty Pleistocene. Doors are at 8pm. Bring $5.

Tonight: Tundrastomper

The freshly reopened West Side basement spot Curly’s will host a night of solid indie and punk tunes. The show boasts some great local acts, including the wildly unique drum duo CCDS, the new lady quintet known as Basement Rat, and the thinking man’s punk trio, Red Heat. The touring act is Ardsley, New York’s Tundrastomper, a band which cooks up just the right mix of surf rock, punk, and indie into something that is just plain fun. Things are set to take off right at 7pm with CCDS with a cover of only $5.

Tonight: Pawns

New York City’s Pawns and Rochester’s Hot Mayonnaise  will be bringing down the house at Sugar City tonight. Headliners Pawns sounds like a modern day Bauhaus channeling cool rockers with contemporaries like Perfect Pussy, Institute, and the latest from Ceremony. Nihilistic and anti establishment, Pawns vibe is very cool. Not to be overlooked is Hot Mayonnaise, who play straight up shredding punk rock with a 70’s vibe and look to match. Rounding out the bill are  new local act, Basement Rat will open. Tonight’s show begins at 7pm over at Sugar City with a $5 cover. Tonight: Muerte & the Coltranes

All you Buffalo punks are in for a real treat tonight. I mean, how often do you get to see a band straight out of Mexico? Well, tonight’s the night. Hitting the Glitterbox later on will be the stellar Mexican hardcore act, Muerte, along with fellow touring bands the Coltranes, a bizzaro ripping punk act from California, and post punk / sludge act Coordinated Suicides from Wisconsin. Local wise, you’ll be getting a taste of a brand new punk act, called Basement Rat. As usual, the show is all ages. If you don’t know where the Glitterbox is, feel free to head over to the facebook event and ask an admin, they don’t bite. Things are set to take off at 6pm, and $7 is being asked for the touring acts, but as stated on the event page, no one will be turned away.
