Tonight: All American Music Party ft. Dear Rabbit

It’s an all American extravaganza, featuring none other than one-man-band Dear Rabbit, with his gypsy-like assemblage of accordion, guitar, cornet, and a fresh new album to top it all off. Joining the cast will be purveyors of Bela Bartok and other European folk jams Shubbaluliuma, as well as songwriter Joseph Murray Myers. It’s all going down tonight at 100 Plymouth Ave, 10:30 pm. $5 dollar suggested donation. Fireworks not included. BYOB. Dear Rabbit / When The Well Dries Out from HISTORIAN SESSIONS on Vimeo.

Murder Mystery Barbeque

Head down to 100 Plymouth Avenue this afternoon for a full evening of unbridled jollification. You heard right- the itinerary includes grilling, a murder mystery to partake in, and finally, live performances by Chicago acts, Headless Horse Head and Columbia Fasciata alongside Buffalo’s own Kristachuwan. On their bandcamp, Headless Horse Head describes themselves as a “continued assault of psychedelic ear candy swirling in a vortex of car accident debris, a mega basement of grinding blues using teeth filling to plug your ears, the 5th attempt at ripping your face off”. Meanwhile, Columbia Fasciata creates eerie, pop-tinged, lo-fi tunes that conjure themes of innocence along with the loss of it. Meats, murder, goth-pop, and interstellar electronic (from both ends of the spectrum). The fun starts at 6 and a donation of 3-5 dollars is strongly urged. See ya there.

One of the joys about writing for this blog is that I get clued in to great things that otherwise I would miss completely. This show’s one of them. Wasn’t cool enough to catch a regular Facebook invite, but someone was kind enough to send it my way, and I’m totally into the lineup. If I wanted to be cute, I would say that Banned Books bridge the gap between All  of Them Witches math-rock weirdness and Hot Tip’s jagged post-punk angles. But, in truth, something much stranger is going on. These guys play indie-rock music, but they also like to take a whole lot of left turns and make a whole lot of noise. Check out their Bandcamp and you, like me, will[...]
