Strawflower – “Indigo”

Strawflower is a four piece from LA and “Indigo” is the latest single from their debut full length, Greetings from the Stardust Motel. Describing themselves as “surf rock and psychedelic pop” immediately intrigued me, and the guitar intro hooked right off the start. The band quickly establishes a rollickin’ swagger with a sick bass line underpinning the guitar picking. Vocals are very California – effortlessly cool while being chill as fuck (all the while singing about a so-called “tumultuous relationship”). I’d love to make a Beach Boys pun, because of the California connection but that’s not me, wouldn’t it be nice though? (sorry, that’s two)
In all seriousness though, fans of pop of any sort would find a lot to enjoy here. The rest of the album is quite a treat with a lot of different influences in play, including some country bops. Listeners who enjoy Tame Impala, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, or even MGMT would find a lot to enjoy here.
You can hear “Indigo” below from YouTube and, if you’re getting good vibrations from it (sorry, that’s three), the rest of the album is available on Spotify as well.
