Artist Spotlight

Heavy Rotation: Chauncey Tails

Monday was Rick Jameson, Tuesday was DJ Pizza Pizza, yesterday was TEENWOLF, and today’s Heavy Rotation artist is Chauncey Tails. Hailing from Gowanda, the bedroom producer is well versed in producing and chopping up tracks. He has masterful remakes of songs by artists including Danny Brown and Chief Keef to his name, completely reimagining the tracks. When he sticks to instrumentals, Tails can hit you with bouncy tracks like “Tropical Topical,” knocks like “summer trap,” or hit you with a Paul McCartney sample. Closing out the night with a 2am set, Chauncey is bringing all of his vibes to Allen Street Hardware at the second edition of our Heavy Rotation. An artist with a wide array of sounds, Chauncey has a history with buffaBLOG. He was the resident DJ at our 4th Birthday Party event earlier in the year. Fluidly combining elements of trip-hop, trap, and anything that will sound good. Chauncey[...]

Heavy Rotation: TEENWOLF

Look at that advert to the right. This is what this post is going to be hyping. This Friday evening, buffaBLOG will be curating a showcase of some of the very best up-and-coming DJs in Buffalo. On Monday, we featured a write up Spooky Business’ Rick Jameson. Yesterday we spotlighted DJ Pizza Pizza (and today a little bit too). Wednesday is DJ TEENWOLF’s turn. DJ TEENWOLF might be on a lot of radars due to his past collaborations with Allentown’s favorite alternative emcee, Jack Topht. Prior to this, the well-versed DJ resided in New York City, producing indie hits for popular hipster rap group (PRE-DAS RACIST), Ninjasonik. Upon TEENWOLF’s arrival back west, he teamed up with some of the minds behind Toats Orig, playing some of their parties. Without a doubt, the WOLF will deliver a bumping set this Friday. Doors are at 10pm with a $5 cover.

Heavy Rotation: DJ Pizza Pizza

Buffalo producer Pizza Pizza first caught our attention earlier this year when he started posting a series of tracks or “slices,” as the artist refers them, to his soundcloud account. Despite the whimsical name, many of Pizza Pizza’s beats are a sinister blend of trap and bass with hard-hitting drums and sparse, chopped-up vocals. Tracks like “Slice 30” and “Slice 21” display a more idiosyncratic take on the Chicago-born juke style brought to international acclaim by the late DJ Rashad and show the artist’s grasp of several high-energy dancefloor styles. Balancing ethereal vibes with effective, straightforward trap inspired percussion “Slice 25,” released as a free download and featured here at buffaBLOG is perhaps the best example of the vibe the DJ will bring  this Friday when he spins at our second installment of Heavy Rotation at Allen Street Hardware. The event will also feature local artists Chauncey Tails, Teenwolf, and Rick[...]

Heavy Rotation: Rick Jameson

Artists love to have alter egos, and in this case, Spooky Business DJ Rick Jameson has many. If you want to call him by his government name, address him as Sean ‘Seabass’ Heidinger, who by day is the Classified Advertising Director for  Artvoice, a cover not unlike Clark Kent or Peter Parker. At night, however, he is saving people…from boring nights and bad music. As one half of “World-Class DJ Supergroup” Spooky Business, Spooky Sean got his start at a Buffalo mainstay of nights that are unforgettable yet you can’t remember them, the Pink. Like the DJ, the bar also goes by other names, including it’s the actual one, Allen Street Bar and Grill, inexplicably nicknamed The Old Pink.  From here, business only got bigger and better, and now the duo plays bars and clubs all over the 716. This Friday, the blog’s second installment of our Heavy Rotation series takes[...]
