Tonight: UB Spring Fest

With the semester’s end in sight for area college students, and the generous blanket of warm rays we’ve been receiving lately, today is nothing short of an ideal setup for UB’s Spring Fest. This year’s event, sponsored by Alternative Buffalo 107.7 and held at the University at Buffalo’s Baird Point, is jam packed with headline-worthy artist after another. Cali natives and seasoned alt-radio vets, Young the Giant, are slated as the main act of the night. If you were able to catch the band at Canalside last year, you can most likely vouch for the energetic punch their set packed. Also in tow for the evening is sultry electro-pop singer Banks, whose debut album Goddess (released only last September) has made a lasting imprint on alternative charts worldwide. In the Valley Below shares a similar dark, synth-infused pop sound to Banks, but brings a fresh male/female vocal blend to the[...]

Just Announced: UB Spring Fest

The State University of NEW YORK (see the men’s basketball jerseys) at Buffalo continues to prove it is with the times as its Student Association announced this year’s Spring Fest yesterday, set to be headlined by Young the Giant on Saturday, May 2nd. N̶o̶ ̶t̶h̶i̶s̶ ̶i̶s̶n̶’̶t̶ ̶a̶n̶ ̶A̶l̶t̶-̶B̶u̶f̶f̶a̶l̶o̶ ̶s̶h̶o̶w̶.̶ ̶T̶h̶e̶ ̶s̶t̶a̶t̶i̶o̶n̶ ̶i̶s̶ ̶c̶u̶r̶r̶e̶n̶t̶l̶y̶ ̶t̶o̶o̶ ̶b̶u̶s̶y̶ ̶l̶o̶s̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶i̶t̶s̶ ̶s̶h̶i̶t̶ ̶o̶v̶e̶r̶ ̶i̶t̶s̶ ̶u̶p̶c̶o̶m̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶K̶e̶r̶f̶u̶f̶f̶l̶e̶ ̶a̶n̶n̶o̶u̶n̶c̶e̶m̶e̶n̶t̶.̶   Nevermind, they found time to sponsor this. The rest of the bill, though, is comprised of alternative radio mainstays Bear Hands, In the Valley Below, Banks, and local act, Royal Tongues, so it’s close enough. UB, who frequently seemed a tad out of touch on many of its Fall/Spring Fest acts, took a major step in the right direction with last year’s Kendrick Lamar show, although I am still waiting for them to top that Outkast Spring Fest when I was in high school. The multi-band show will once[...]

City and Colour, Tokyo Police Club, & Young The Giant at Outer Harbor (7/11/14)

This year’s summer season has seen no shortage of rain. June saw the Canalside concert site become a giant mud pit after the skies opened up and down-poured on the concertgoers of Shaggy’s summer kickoff. With all the incredible acts playing outdoor shows this year in the queen city, all we can do is remain hopeful for nice weather, and that’s exactly what we got for Friday night’s show at the Outer Harbor featuring City and Colour, Young the Giant, Tokyo Police Club, and Clear Plastic Masks. The lineup was stacked, the skies were clear, the beer was flowing, and the vibes put smiles on just about every face that walked through those gates. Hailing from St. Catharines, Canadian singer-songwriter Dallas Green (who performs under clever alias City & Colour) can obviously pull a crowd, and his draw is no gimmick. His songs, often thematically centered on love and loss,[...]

Tonight: City and Colour, Young the Giant, and Tokyo Police Club

Not just everyone in the world gets to be in two wildly successful bands… But then again not everyone is Dallas Green – he’s the man with the golden voice that you hear singing in those beautiful City and Colour songs. Buffalo’s Outer Harbor series nailed it earlier this year with Vampire Weekend and Cults – tonight is poised to do the same. City and Colour is supported by alternative radio mainstays Young the Giant and the upbeat, keyboard-driven indie rock of Tokyo Police Club. This particular date at the Outer Harbor is sponsored by Alternative Buffalo 107.7 and seems to be one of the ones to appeal to a younger crowd. The show is all ages, but plenty of beer will be flowing for the 21+ crowd. City and Colour, Young The Giant, Tokyo Police Club, and Clear Plastic Masks Outer Harbor All Ages Gates at 6:00pm $45 Day[...]
