Tonight: Anklepants

Yes Virginia… that dude has a cock for a nose. Now that that’s out of way… tonight Sugar City will be the scene of an art and dance happening to end all happenings when it hosts controversial EDM artist Anklepants (known aliases: Dr. Reecard Farche, Josh Head). The Australian EDM wunderkind will be joined by local electro experimenters Ay Fast and Logan Locking, and word on the street has it that costumes and other manner of freakishness are HIGHLY encouraged at this Squeaky Wheel sponsored event. They want the wonkiest sesh ever, so if you’re going you’ve got to be ready to go all out. $10 gets you in and doors are at 7pm.

Just Announced: Anklepants

The nearly year long Wonk Sesh series, presented by pop musician Lesionread, has always been known for its left-of-the-dial acts, but the for the series upcoming show, we clearly have a front runner for the strangest set yet. On June 28th at Sugar City, and presented by Squeaky Wheel, Wonk Sesh is proud to present Anklepants. Until I heard from Wonk Sesh curator, Shawn Lewis/Lesionread, I had no idea who/what Anklepants was, so let me let Reecard Farché ( the man behind Anklepants) explain it for himself: “Anklepants…is a one man mechanical faced sound creature from the depths of the the Australian übergründé. Anklepants is a perfect specimen. His eyes nose face and mouth are perfect. Anklepants is a live electronic music machine.” Ok, maybe that didn’t explain enough. Farché  was the set designer for Prometheus (that mask does look a little bit like the Space Jockey helmet), and when performing, uses a Wii-like controller attached to[...]

Watermelon

It’s been a minute since Lesionread blessed us with another Wonk Sesh clip. The green-screened series, which we co-present with LR’s alter ego, Shawn Lewis, features live performances from normally left-of-the-dial touring and/or local acts. For the latest Wonk Sesh, Lewis filmed Province noise duo, Watermelon, in the absolutely freezing attic of the Hive this past winter. The session was briefly mentioned in a Gothamist article  from earlier this year which made the city go straight bonkers. If you have fallen a bit behind on any of the Wonk Sesh series, make sure to catch up here. In further Lesionread news, the pop artist recently performed a three-song set at Baltimore’s WJHU studio. The performance, which features live takes of “Perfect,” “Open,” and personal favorite, “Neutron Bomb” The clip, which Lewis thankfully wonkified as well, can be viewed below. Lastly, if you want to catch a different type of Lesionread set,[...]

Fake Species

Its been a minute since we had a new Wonk Sesh installment on our hands. The co-presented series from the blog and abstract performer Lesionread held its latest filming back at the end of October at Dreamland with Cleveland’s tribal rockers, Fake Species. The show was a blast. You can watch the bonkers video, the 4th in the still young series, below if you couldn’t make it. If you missed any of our past seshes, then check out the archives featuring performances former fellow left-of-the-dial acts like Lord Nathaniel and Couples Counseling here.

Lord Nathaniel

This past Sunday over on Baynes, Boston’s experimental, electronic musician, Lord Nathaniel, set up shop in the West Side attic for the latest installment of our co-presented Wonk Sesh series. Filmed as always by electro wunderkind Lesionread, the hypnotic performance came complete with an accompanying choreographer (she is on tour with Lord Nathaniel) leading the audience through various improvised moves during the set. Watch the full clip from Lord Nathaniel’s Wonk Sesh below and for past installments, head over to Lesionread’s YouTube page.

Lesionread Shares Latest Track, Preps Next Wonk Sesh

Going under the working name of “Jordan,” although technically untitled, the latest track and live staple from electro wunderkind Lesionread (aka Shawn Lewis/Sean Louis), is a nervy, four-on-the-floor jam. Those who have seen the former art student’s show over the last year should be familiar with the song, but if you haven’t, then listen below and enjoy while you can. Lewis is known for removing music from the web at a moment’s notice. In other Lesionread news, the latest installment of our co-presented Wonk Sesh,  a live video series capturing some of the more left-of-the-dial touring bands coming through Buffalo, will be taking place this Sunday, August 7th, at 362 Baynes. Sunday’s taping will feature Boston’s Lord Nathaniel, along with local acts Copy Manager and Barf. Full details can be found here.
