Witty Tarbox – “Goodbye Jackie”

One of Buffalo’s most eclectic exports comes in the form of Witty Tarbox – a genre-bending act who is full of left-field energy and pleasant surprises. We’re digging “Goodbye Jackie” – this one is full of bluesy guitar funk with surf flavor, bouncing basslines, and one-of-a-kind vocals barking stream of consciousness lyrics. “Jackie” just might be the most unique thing you’ve heard all day. Check out the retro-imagery-inspired music video below.

Tonight: The Tins

Local indie pop act The Tins are returning to Mohawk Place this evening.  Recently releasing their self-titled full-length album, The Tins have received a warm welcome among listeners.  Notably, The Tins has been included in the NACC Chart’s “20 Most Added Songs.” Having formed nearly ten years ago, The Tins continue to evolve as a band, most recently  introducing more psychedelic flavor with their latest release.  “Jubilee,” a new single from the album, is especially airy and light, seeming to take influence from The Beatles (“Penny Lane” crossed my mind on this one).  Having collaborated with the Goo Goo Dolls’ Robby Takac, The Tins is something to be admired, adding to the phenomenal sounds coming out of the Queen City lately. Joining The Tins tonight are Buffalo groups Witty Tarbox, and newcomers Leyda.  From the Capital Region, indie pop rock band Lucy rounds out the lineup. Doors open at 8pm to[...]

Tonight: Witty Tarbox Release Show

Do you like clowns, cotton candy and indie grooves? Well lucky for you, Witty Tarbox is turning Buffalo’s Nietzsche’s into a big top tonight for the release of their debut studio EP, The Adventures of Schmitty: Issue #1 v RARE. Hailing from Buffalo, Witty Tarbox stands out by taking a cooler, more laidback approach to their sound, blending the blues with all kinds of rock, from indie to surf, resulting in some seriously funky jams. This is one of those bands where the music is sweetened by the performance so don’t miss ‘em. Helping out with the festivities and wrangling the elephants are the vintage tinged three-piece, Handsome Jack, and groove rockers, Mosswalk. Doors at 9pm, $5 cover. 21 and over. Show up early because the first 25 people get a free hard copy of the EP.

Tonight: North by North

Tonight the Chicago-based duo North by North will take the stage at The 9th Ward, the bar located in the basement of the multi-use facility Babeville at 341 Delaware Ave. North by North’s brand of hard-hitting, riff-oriented rock will be the go-to rock show in town this evening. Also on the bill are buzzing up-and-coming local act, Witty Tarbox, indie rockers The Rifts, and perhaps the busiest grunge revivalist act in Buffalo, Nylon Otters. The show will start at 8pm with an $8 cover. Tonight: Deadwolf Album Release Party

Local psych rock classicists Deadwolf have finally released their epic full length debut LP Heavy Heart and they are celebrating this long awaited event tonight at the Mohawk. The band and their fans have been waiting a while for this album to be out there, an expansive exploration of sixties psychedelia featuring serious ear candy jams, loads of shimmering guitars, subtle menace, and excellent harmonies, which translate very well live, and with their penchant for audio and visual satisfaction,  you can expect something a little extra from Deadwolf in the headlining spot this evening. Lockport rockers Handsome Jack, who recently crushed it opening for Timber Timbre on this very stage will be back to spread their early 70’s rock gospel with Witty Tarbox opening the show with their funky and nihilistic surf rock. Cover is $5, doors open at 8pm and the first 25 people through the door get a physical copy of[...]

Tonight: Delicate Steve

Nietzsche’s will play host to New Jersey indie rocker Delicate Steve tonight. It’s not an easy feat to classify Delicate Steve; his guitar lead and afrobeat-driven songs dance on the line of otherworldly in most cases, but effortlessly deliver something fresh to today’s music scene. You may have caught him when he rolled through Buffalo with Mac Demarco at the Tralf in 2014. Set to open are the space-exploring psych rockers Aircraft and Witty Tarbox (formerly Annasun).  Tickets for the show are $13 at the door, with doors opening at 9pm. 21+.
