Peach releases new album The Fall of Rome

Buffalo production duo 桃 [peach] with only a pair of bandcamp releases to their name are responsible for one of the more unique sounds to come out of the local electronic scene. With their latest album The Fall of Rome, the artists explore sounds rooted in vaporwave, house, and electronica while adhering to the ancient Roman theme with track titles like “Julius Caesar,” “The Ides of March,” and “Fall of the Republic.” Opening with the downtempo, glitchy “Ode to a New Age,” Peach complements fiery drums with lush chords and dark atmospherics while the more house-oriented “Julius Caesar” brings to mind the work of Toronto duo Crystal Castles with its abrasive textures and frenetic synth leads. Their eclectic production skills lend themselves to more groove-based, mellow tracks as well with “Welcome to Rome” and “Crossing the Rubicon” providing a more subdued tone while maintaining the experimental, scatter-brained approach that characterizes Peach’s sound. Darksleep – Obviate

The imaginative soundscapes of Buffalo producer Darksleep have been among the most otherworldly to emerge from the local underground electronic scene over the past year. With the release of his debut album, 電効営み, the artist caught our attention with a vivid, experimental style reminiscent of avant-garde synth virtuoso Oneohtrix Point Never and Venezuelan producer/Bjork collaborator Arca. This sound-art approach to making tracks is conveyed clearly from a glance at the abstract artwork for the latest release from the enigmatic producer, Obviate.  From the onset of the album’s lead track, “Precursor,” with it’s glitchy vocals and washes of digital chaos, Darksleep creates an unsettling, yet mesmerizing atmosphere complete with playful arpeggiating synth tones and eerie droning textures. As a listener, the effect can be imagined as being transported into alternate universe where what follows is an eloquent glimpse at a wildly conceptual world of sonic visions. Fotisporn Releases “D Frenzy” Single

Speaking of Buffalo vaporwave acts, another interesting track popped up over the weekend from the underground genre in the form of “D Frenzy” from electronic artist Fotisporn. The dark, disco single samples Billy Ocean’s “Carribeen Queen” while backed by smooth horns and has some serious Darkside vibes. Keep an eye out from future releases from this mysterious project. Darksleep Releases 電効営み

Over at the blog offices last week, we stumbled across the  impressive, debut LP, 電効営み , from vaporwave artist Darksleep. The album immediately had us thinking of works from Oneohtrix Point Never, Crystal Castles, and even some Purity Ring, and while we have no idea how to pronounce 電効営, the album quickly grew on us. Check out the entire release over at Darksleep’s bandcamp page and in the mean time, listen to album’s stand out track, “Left on the Curb,” below.
