Tonight: Honey COMA

Honey COMA is hosting an evening of what promises to be very emotional music tonight. The trio specializes in dark, brooding indie rock with painfully introspective lyrics – case in point, debut EP 7 Songs. Joining them tonight are alt-punk, queer-core trio Tina Panic Noise and a performance from San Antōn (aka Tony Flaminio of Lemuria, Failures’ Union, and Mallwalkers fame). Tonight’s show is at Mohawk Place – doors are at 8pm. Bring $5. 7 Songs by honey COMA

Tonight: Newish Star

Buffalo’s favorite lo-fi power punk act Newish Star has some new(ish) announcements! As a follow up to their October release, You Missed Everything Part I, the trio recently released the second half of their new album, You Missed Everything Part II. With a whopping eight minute-thirty second run time and a total album run time of about 17 minutes, the guys stay true to the brief, quip-like tunes they’re known for. Though it feels like the album is over in the blink of an eye, the cryptic lyrics and hooky melodies always linger for much longer. As an added bonus, tonight marks the start of Newish Star’s November tour, which will include nine additional East Coast dates. The celebration kicks off at Curly’s at 7pm tonight. $3 gets ya in the door to experience the band’s punchy, energy packed set, along with opening sets from Kharlos and Tony Flaminio. Ask[...]

Tonight: A House Safe For Tigers

Best thing about Buffalo on a Saturday night? Options. One of tonight’s top picks would bring you to Mohawk Place for the highly-anticipated release party of A House Safe for Tigers, the debut album from the local mellotron supergroup of the same name. If you’re reading this, you may have been vibing out to AHSfT (our most recent Album of the Week) for a few months already; now is your chance to see the album performed in full-band glory. Opening tonight’s festivities are two acts that have been pretty scarce on this year’s live circuit—synthrock revivalists TMMC and a special solo performance from Failures’ Union’s Tony Flaminio. Get there on time to catch everyone. Doors open up at 8pm with an affordable $5 cover. A House Safe For Tigers by A House Safe For Tigers

Today: Tony Flaminio/Spiral Scratch Sidewalk Sale

If I were hired to be a music supervisor for an HBO series dramatizing life in Western NY, the first person I would contact is Tony Flaminio. The second would probably be Nick Reynolds (Space Wolves, Aaron and the Burrs, Bad People). The third would probably be… I could go on forever, but that’s besides the point. Tony Flaminio is a longtime staple in Buffalo’s music scene, with a well respected resume which includes first and foremost Failures’ Union, as well as supporting roles in Malllwalkers and Returners.  If you have not taken the time to digest his incredibly earnest songwriting style. then make your way down to Spiral Scratch this afternoon. Word on the Facebook is that it started fifteen minutes ago (12:00pm ET) and goes til 6:30pm, but I’m sure Flaminio will go on later this afternoon as there are supporting acts. Get there by 4:30pm to be safe.
