Watch Lesionread Perform Final “Art All Day” Set

Last night at the Tralf, Lesionread (aka Shawn/Sean Lewis/Louis) staged a triumphant return to BFLO opening for Neon Indian. The beat heavy and trippy set gradually drew in the crowd of LR neophytes, offering a tactile, almost punk experience all in the service of spreading the love and selling art.  By set’s end, the whole floor was jumping with joyful abandon, a fitting conclusion to Lewis’ “Art All Day” era. Tonight: Neon Indian

After about four years of silence caused partially by a stolen laptop, Neon Indian’s Vega Intl. Night School is one of this year’s surprises. Vega Intl. sounds like something you might hear in a restaurant in Blade Runner. A solid record oscillating between atmospheric synth tunes akin to music from Italians Do It Better and the aggressive tight groove of album highlight “Slumlord.”    Tonight, Neon Indian returns to Buffalo for the first time since a great show at Soundlab a few years ago. Playing at the Tralf, the group will be joined by Explorer Tapes and local electro-spectacle performer, Lesionread. Doors open at 7pm tonight and tickets can still be purchased for $19.

After playing at both Kerfuffle and UB’s Springfest, In The Valley Below returned to play their first headlining show in Buffalo at the Tralf Music Hall this past Tuesday. The LA duo played through their 2014 album The Belt, with a set that included their hugely successful songs “Peaches” and “Hymnal.” Opening for ITVB was California-based group Clara-Nova. Tonight: What the Beck

After performing to packed crowds at Nietzsche’s, What the Beck, the pun-ey tribute group to alt-rock’s favorite genre-bender, is performing at the Tralf tonight. While Beck songs normally dabble in rock, alternative, funk, west coast folk, hip hop, country, and latin music – in other words, pretty much everything – the group itself is a 10-piece big band. It’s a welcome reimagining of one of rock’s most fluid and experimental song-writers. In fact, it’s surprising Beck himself hasn’t tried big band renditions of his own songs, given his flair for reinvention and bold, difficult performances. As an added bonus, the opener will be local cover group Pockets, performing the music of Modest Mouse. It goes practically without saying that the indie-rock darlings, headed by the always frenetic and sarcastic Isaac Brock, are great local favorites, purportedly selling out their April show at Babeville within minutes.
