Tonight: Garrett Klahn

Do you know who Garrett Klahn is? Klahn is known best for his seminal work as the frontman of emo figureheads Texas is the Reason. Klahn has had a long and storied career since (Solea, Atlantic/Pacific, and now his solo venture), and has sharpened his skills from a cathartic 18-year-old punk to a now-nuanced musician. Tonight he’s here as Garret Klahn & The Surrounding Areas with Buffalo emo kingpins Del Paxton and The Good in tow. Tonight’s show is at Mohawk Place. Bring $10 and show up at 8.

Tonight: The Mystery Lights

Fans of Daptone Records know that whatever the label is putting out, whether it’s Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, Charles Bradley, Antibalas, Naomi Shelton & The Gospel Queens, or The Budos Band, it’s going to sound instantly classic but also have a sense of immediacy that says “we’re here, you’re hear, and this is right now.” Now the Bushwick ,Brooklyn soul empire is expanding to include straight up rock music with their new WICK Records imprint, and their first band The Mystery Lights will be making their Buffalo debut tonight at the Mohawk Place. Tonight: Kharlos

For a while, Kharlos was a pretty tight lipped secret. After the intense word-of-mouth from their first show, we were very curious about their sound which was being described as “awesome” and “sick.” The band is not really into the social media game, preferring the music to speak for itself. Regardless of their internet presence, Kharlos is composed of the guitarists/singer from defunct (?) grunge-act, Merchants (Ben Maries and Steve Gordon), along with Space Wolves/The Hamiltones drummer, Chris Scamurra. Fans of Diarrhea Planet, Wavves, and Bass Drum of Death should consider themselves Kharlos fans. Also on the bill is Poindexter, a band that could have easily been on Kung-Fu in the late 90’s, and rock and roll vets, The Good. Doors are at 8pm with a $5 cover. Did I mention this is at Mohawk Place? It’s at Mohawk Place.
