Hypoluxo - Sewing Souls

Tonight: Hypoluxo

It’s summer. It’s hot. It’s humid and you’re jonesing to get out and do something. Brooklyn act Hypoluxo will be playing at Sewing Souls to help you get that energy out. Having dropped their LP, If Language back in September, the four piece is back with a tight collection of songs in the form of their new EP, Taste Buds, releasing this August. The band came together and started making music while in Brooklyn, but it’s where each of the band members are from that’s really had an impact on their sound. Hailing from parts of Florida and LA, Hypoluxo’s sound has a laid back attitude and echoes Beat Happening a bit. Playing alongside Hypoluxo will be psych rockers, Deadwolf who are coming off their crazy show on Sunday, noise pop act, Suburbs, and locals, Planet Three. Doors are at 7pm. $5 at the door for the touring band. Taste Buds by Hypoluxo

Suburbs Drop New Jam “48 Hour Scumbags”

Enigmatic Buffalo electronica act Suburbs released a terrific single that is chilled out perfection and profoundly satisfying.  Kicked off with a burst of howling bros, “48 Hour Scumbags” immediately downshifts into a sexy groove anchored by some godless church organs and the de-tuned and fuzzed out vocals from Kevin Stuitje. Time and space dilates  in the late night/early morning haze conjured by this endearingly skeezy and subliminally agitated jam before crashing in the end, and like a 48 hour scumbag, it left me needing more. 48 Hour Scumbags by Suburbs

Tonight: Little Baltimore Christmas Extravanza

Tonight get your groove on  while keeping Christmas weird at Little Baltimore’s Christmas Extravaganza featuring The Curls. The dreamy Chicago indie dance pop outfit (think Siouxsie and the Banshees meets Talking Heads) will be joined by garage pop duo Suburbs, the cranked up Strokes goodness of Ugly Suns, Brimstone Blondes frontman Matthew Danger Lippman, with a DJ set by Allen Nieves to wrap it all up nice. Show starts at 8pm, bring $3 for the visiting Curls along with Christmas cookies, beer and what have you.

Tonight: Dogs in Stereo

Dogs in Stereo is a relative of Travis Morrison’s Travistan or some of Jawbox’s work. Shrouded in lo-fi, Dogs in Stereo thrive on telling acoustic pieces often paired with classic retro drum tones and completely morphing effects like chorus. Their latest release, I Peaked in ’07, is a moody, deep twisted saga. “Finally Feelin'” is reminiscent of Mac Demarco’s old releases. Joining Dogs in Stereo at Milkie’s is Moody Cosmos and Suburbs. The first is a Fredonia-bred psych pop group that sounds like Girls and the other is an upbeat side project of Tomoreaux/Holland Purchase. Doors are at 8pm with a $5 cover.
