Tonight: The Hollywood Motel

Tonight at Nietzsche’s marks the debut Buffalo performance of a familiar act under a new moniker. The Hollywood Motel, fronted by Niagara Falls native turned Portland multi-media artist Billy Fortier, was formerly behind popular WNY act Seafox. This evening will be the band’s first outing – they have put together a one-off performance in Buffalo that luckily coincides with their holiday travel plans. The Hollywood Motel is rounded out by Fortier’s brother, Eric Fortier, Pete Heuer, and Deadwolf/Passed Out’s Andy Pothier. Their sound has a psych-y upbeat 70s sound with contemporary indie pop drive. The band is currently in the studio fleshing out their debut album with the Dandy Warhols. Also joining The Hollywood Motel are locals Canetis, who are fresh off the release of their new album Putting Time Together, and psych-pop trio VR Sunset. Doors are at 8pm with a $5 cover. Tonight: Seafox

Ethereal folk act Seafox is returning from a romp on the west coast for a night of beautiful, intimate music. Seafox (aka William Fortier) specializes in lush compositions that sound beautiful fleshed-out, but could also certainly stand on their own. Support tonight comes from bedroom folk quartet heave and solo-act (and purveyor of sorrow), Ian McCuen. Tonight’s show is $7. Show up early at 7pm – music will end by 10pm. A friendly reminder that Sugar City is an all-ages venue with no drugs/alcohol/bad attitudes.

Tonight: Seafox

Encasing an enriching blend of folk, pop, modern alternative and classic rock, Niagara Falls’ Seafox will be performing tonight at Nietzsche’s, the renowned club located at 248 Allen St. Seafox is spearheaded by singer-songwriter Billy Fortier and just recently released their sophomore album Eulogy of the Angels. The band will be joined by fellow Buffalo indie acts Feverbox, Jacob Peter and busker folk Rust Belt Brigade. Doors start at 9pm Only those 21 and over will be allowed entry into the venue. The cover will be $5. While you’re at it, check out Seafox’s single “Believe” below.

Seafox – Eulogy of the Angels

Harnessing musical influence into something fresh and original is no easy feat. Unless you’re Seafox. The Buffalo-based folk-pop band upended the scene late last year with its impressive sophomore full-length Eulogy of the Angels, channeling the likes of Beck, Pink Floyd, My Morning Jacket, MGMT, and more. The amalgamation of these influences brought to the table something ambitious yet near-perfectly executed, as well as our album of the week. As the sophomore effort of singer/songwriter William Fortier, Eulogy carries some serious weight. A full ten songs deep and somewhat of a departure from the solo singer/songwriter vibes of Fortier’s debut Colours, the album enmeshes acoustic folk with some of the catchiness of modern alternative for a blend that makes repeat listens easy and often. Having begun initially as Fortier’s solo project, Seafox has evolved with the recruitment of brother Eric Fortier on bass/keys and Kevin Pryles on drums. Together, the[...]
