Tonight: Twin Peaks

Tonight, incandescent Chicago DIY indie garage rockers Twin Peaks make a stop in Buffalo at the Rec Room with fellow Chicagoans Post Animal and local rock heroes Made Violent. God bless them, these dudes formed their band back in high school in 2010 amidst other proper shenanigans, getting their legs becoming mainstays in Chicago’s DIY scene before releasing their debut EP Sunken in 2012 and continuing a prolific string of releases up thru last year’s Sweet ’17 Singles, a collection of laid back psych garage recordings the band released as singles monthly throughout 2017. Chicago’s Post Animal will be making a welcome return after making a very heady debut at the Tralf a few years ago and making good on a show scotched by the death of a van last year I believe, while local fellas Made Violent will be getting everybody in the mood with their tasteful, California sober hard rock[...]

Tonight: White Reaper

Ascendant Louisville hard rockers White Reaper headline a killer lineup tonight at the Town Ballroom with Chicago psych rock outfit Post Animal and local garage rock heroes Made Violent. In town in support of their very, very well reviewed sophomore effort The World’s Best American Band, White Reaper will be unleashing their bold, fully loaded and totally kick ass 70’s/80’s rock stylings (minus the problematic baggage) on the willing and eager faithful, while Post Animal returns to play Buffalo twice in one year having melting faces with their Sabbath meets Tame Impala jams at the Tralf in May when they opened for that ill fated and abridged Wavves show. Hometown garage rock troublemakers Made Violent, who are currently prepping for the release of new music next year and getting ready for a tour of the midwest with Ugly Sun, open the show, returning to the Town Ballroom stage that started it all,[...]

Wavves at Tralf Music Hall (05/19/17)

Friday’s Wavves show with Post Animal at The Tralf was one for the books, with drama, tension, and a potential for chaos that became manifest throughout the night. Chicago’s Post Animal got the night going with a super charged set of psychedelic rock that channeled the heft and darkness of Black Sabbath (“You Were Not There”), free form sixties Pink Floyd and the dense harmonics of Tame Impala (“When I Get Home”) to crush the slowly growing crowd under their heavy space riffs. The jury is out on whether Joe Kerry (Steve from Stranger Things) was with them; the one guy kind of looked like him but he was wearing glasses and sporting indie rocker long hair instead of the Steve Harrington bouffant, and his yelps sounded familiar, but in the end it didn’t matter. Post Animal was a heady and head banging good time in the best way possible.[...]

Tonight: Wavves

Beloved California surf rockers Wavves make their welcome return to Buffalo tonight at the Tralf with Chicago psych rockers Post Animal. It’s since six long years since Nathan Williams and company played the Town Ballroom and the band’s had some adventures: signing to Warner Brothers after the indie success with King Of The Beach and releasing two albums with them before totally falling out with Warners and returning to the indie world all pissed off and invigorated. Footloose and free, Wavves dropped their wonderfully wacky and adventurous sixth album You’re Welcome this very day in history, making tonight’s show even more special for local fans. Chicago buzz band Post Animal opens the show, having just dropped their latest single “Special Moment” last week. The buzz surrounding them is noteworthy for a few reasons: 1) it’s entirely justified thanks to their dense and dreamy, Tame Impalaesque sound; and 2) part of the buzz[...]
