Tonight: Accidental Fest

The day is finally here. It’s a punk Christmas in Buffalo tonight as the Accidental Fest goes down at The Mickiewicz Polish Library, the same spot where Torn Space Theatre puts on their performances. The venue is the perfect spot to house the absolute chaos that erupts when 10 different bands, 6 out of town touring bands and 4 local acts, all gather together under one roof. Coming from St. Louis are weirdo pop stars BB Eye; Janitor Scum from Calgary, Alberta; Big Ups and Meneka from NYC; Pandemix from Boston, and Spell Runner out of Albany. Local powerhouses Radiation Risks will be representing Buffalo alongside Tines,  and Becca Ryskalczyk. This won’t be a show you will want to miss. Doors are at 5:30pm and it’s $10 at the door.

Today: Cold Blood MMXV

Good fests come along once in a blue moon, and, with respect to our lovely little wintry wonderland, are somewhat of a anomaly here in the Queen City. Oh sure, you have your Veggie Fests and Decency Rallies, but Buffalo is a “what have you done for me lately” kinda place. We are blessed in that sense. Case in point: Cold Blood MMXV, a 17 band first-run fest featuring some of the best and most rippingest (fuck a vocab) in local punk and hardcore (and a bunch of out of towers too) brought to you by Josh Smith, owner of Black Dots and Melody Seymour from[...]

Tonight: Party at the Polish Library

Over the last couple years, a weird thing’s happened in the Buffalo music scene: a ton of mid-level rock music clubs closed. With the departure of long-time staples like Mohawk Place, Soundlab, The Vault, and even, like, that place that used to be Blue Monk, most area bands and promoters have been forced to shoot for either opening slots at bigger downtown halls, or organize house parties at one of the myriad, illegal basements. This kinda sucked on one hand, but on the other, it forced local music to adjust, and move beyond its arguable state of atrophy; things kinda had to change. So bands broke up and re-organized in better forms, and new, oddball venues started getting a lot of traction. One place that’s picked up a bunch of otherwise homeless show ideas is the Polish Library (612 Fillmore Ave) – a weird but welcoming East Side locale with[...]
