midnight Releases New Anti-Pop Track “Pressure Gradient” Produced by ylxr

Rochester anti-pop crooner, midnight, goes against the grain with his latest and exceptional collaboration with producer ylxr, “Pressure Gradient.” Dealing with the personal and contrasting emotions of racial injustice and bigotry in America today, the vocalist’s weightless whispers bring an electrifying melody and sense to ylxr’s turbulant amalgamation of software malfunctions and corrupted systems. This is a rebellious and charged pop track you don’t want to sleep on. Give it a spin below. Check out more midnight tracks on Spotify here and SoundCloud here.

midnight Drops New Single “Promethium”

Rochester R&B crooner midnight delves into the topic of Greek mythology through the release of his new single “Promethium.” In the singer’s new song, midnight brings up the Prometheus myth as a source of inspiration for the song. His gift comes as both a blessing and a curse because he must suffer for others. There is a complexity to the track with each beat layered over each other. Dreamy Buffalo-based producer ylxr brings an atmospheric style to the track with the spacey synths and slow snaps. Check out “Promethium” below via soundcloud.

midnight Releases Second Single from 0:00

On his recently released o:oo EP, Rochester-artist midnight rolls out a club-influenced R&B sound courtesy of Buffalo producer YLXR’s evocative percussion and atmospheric synths. The pair supplement each other’s aesthetic especially well on “Descent,” a sultry track that highlights the artist’s clever vocal phrasing and patiently builds to a break with chopped vocals and deep bass groove. The single is out now via Majestic Casual records. Take a listen below. midnight Premieres Single Feat. The Internet

Rochester singer midnight returns his electric-soul sound to us by way of his new single “Native America.” In his controlled falsetto, midnight gently navigates through the bounding synths and kicks of the beat. “Native America” is driven upon the sin and dishonesty that resulted in the foundation of our country. The title and track reference both the atrocities committed against the indigenous people of the Americas, and how how the normalcy of violence and stubbornness is engrained in our being. “We’re in Native America,” midnight sings “where the lies are infamous, but the truth, it lives in us.” It is charged and sharp while remaining beautiful and delicate. The track features production from the Internet, well-known for rising up with the hip hop collective Odd Future and receiving acclaim for their 2015 album Ego Death .“Native America” comes ahead of the midnight’s July 1st release of his EP 0:00. midnight describes the project[...]

Top 20 Rochester Tracks: 10-1

It’s that time of the year again where we rack our brain, scan our playlists, and check all of our posts for all of the songs that we’ve covered from the 585 from the past year. It seems like just yesterday we were jamming out to Kitty Snowpants and discussing when JOYWAVE was going to break (spoiler: they did). This is our fourth year of tracking our favorite songs of the year out of Rochester. Now, I am sure there are amazing songs that we’ve brushed over or haven’t even heard coming out of the city. This list is subjective obviously, this is a blog. Regardless, I think Rochester’s scene this year has been the strongest it has been ever, pumping out consistent jams which is giving Buffalo a run for its money. On Tuesday, we posted our first half (20-11) of our favorite tunes. Here are our top ten songs[...]

midnight Drops XII Labors EP

Rochester singer midnight (or mdnt) has been dazzling of late, feeding his listeners spectacular electronic r&b tracks for much of the past year. Singles like “Adonis” and “Baptize” drew expansive acclaim for midnight, building hype up to his release of debut EP XII Labors. Featuring seven tracks of his crooning falsetto and ear for great production, midnight’s debut is a wonderful introduction to the talented artist. The project kicks off with “Baptize,” produced by Buffalo’s YLXR. The track, indicative of its title, sees midnight birth a new attitude and confidence, “standing up to fears that haunt me, can’t no one stop me now.” On “Floating and Falling,” the singer takes on a surprisingly bright beat. Producer craves’ bouncing, lively instrumental syncs up nicely with midnight’s dark vocals as he pleads with a lover to take whatever he has. “Cool Kids (DFWU)” has more of an edge to it than some of midnight’s[...]

midnight Releases Followup Single

Rochester R&B crooner, midnight,  is back with his followup single to last spring’s slow jam of the season, “Adonis.” His latest single, “1v1,” sticks to the same format, sensual falsetto vocals over downtempo electronic backing. Although the song title sounds like it’s about a basketball game, I’m pretty sure it’s about banging. Fans of Kanye’s A Twisted Dark Fantasy, D’Angelo, and How to Dress Well would be the pretty hip to have this on their playlist. midnight Releases Sensual Single “Adonis”

Buffalo-bred, Rochester-raised electro R&B artist, midnight, released his first song in more than a year today, titled “Adonis.” The single is a sip of sorts to midnight’s upcoming reservoir, with collaborations this summer set with buffaBLOG favorites JOYWAVE and Crookers. With comparisons to Maxwell, The Weekend, and How to Dress Well, midnight’s raspy soulful vocals backed by My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy-era Kanye productions create both an ethereal and seductive climate. Listen to “Adonis” below.
