Couples Counseling & PARI∀H

We here at buffaBLOG have teamed up with local videographer Lesionread to present a new video series titled Wonk Sesh. The series is set to capture live performances from some off-beat, possibly off-the-radar acts that come through our city in hopes of placing them onto your radar. The debut videos in the Wonk Sesh series were both filmed at the Northrup House on Sunday, June 8th and features Boston electro-pop artist Couples Counseling, along with tour mates PARI∀H. Keep an eye out for future “seshes” on the blog, or follow Lesionread’s Youtube page. Check out the Wonk Sesh videos from Couples Counseling and PARI∀H below.

Tonight: Silo Sessions Launch Party

One of the most exciting developments in Buffalo’s alleged resurgence has been what’s going down in Silo City, in the city’s post industrial district. Between epic art happenings and pop up food fests, the Silos have become treasured local structures favored by Buffalo’s creative class, a trend that continues tonight with the launch of the Silo Sessions. Almost 30 local and touring acts will be converging at Marine A, Perot Grain Elevator, and American Warehouse starting at 5:00pm for a multi-stage event that will put the excellent acoustics and possibilities of those magnificent buildings to the test. Tickets at the gate will be $15, but you will get in for $10 if you kicked in to this Kickstarter campaign. The full schedule: RIVER STAGE 5:pm Difficult Night 5:45pm The Observers 6:30pm Alex Berkely and the Atlanta Falcons 7:15pm Wooden Cities 8:pm Sam Goodwill 8:45pm Viking Moses 9:30pm Aircraft 10:15pm Landlady 11:00pm Mallwalkers[...]

Aircraft Premieres Video For “Space Euphoria”

Just this morning, Buffalo quartet Aircraft released the new music video for their single “Space Euphoira.” Originally released on a split EP with former Buffalo “it” trio, the Malones, the track will also be included on a future LP from the foursome. As for the Lesionread directed video, which by the way, is one of the best produced local videos that comes to mind, the clip finds the guys traveling the cosmos in a space equipped mystery machine, battling interplanetary villains with surf rock riffs. Keep on the look out for those trademark warped eyes that have become a staple in Lesionread directed videos these days. In other Aircraft news, the band will play at the Burchfield Penny right after work this Friday,  but if you can’t make that and have a passport, you can always catch them at their NXNE showcases the following weekend. If you are in the Toronto area[...]

Tonight: Poliça

The Tralf’s “Summer Of Indie” continues with a killer lineup of up and coming electronic artists featuring Minneapolis  electronica outfit  Poliça with New York’s Lolawolf and blog favorite Lesionread. In town to promote last year’s excellent Shulamith,  Poliça stands apart from the field thanks to their propulsive, R&B infused 80’s new wave sound, evocative lyrics, intense live shows, and chilled out yet soulful vocals from front woman Channy Leaneagh. There’s a tremendous amount of buzz around Lolawolf and their debut EP due in no small part to minimalist old school synths and the distinct and delicately smokey voice of Zoe Kravitz (daughter of Lenny, spiritual son of Prince), while local wunderkind Lesionread (aka Shawn Lewis) will no doubt continue his rise to power and rapid evolution as electronic and multimedia artist  with some new hardware and some mouthwatering new material. Missing Lesionread is foolish, so being there by 8 PM is[...]

Sonny Baker, Nicholas Reynolds, and Jack Topht w/Little Cake

The latest installment of our buffaBLOG Video series is a more intimate affair of a show. Following the afternoon’s Porchfest showcases, we hosted a party, well birthday party, over at Colonial Circle and invited a few of the blog’s favorite acts – Sonny Baker, Nicholas Reynolds of Space Wolves, and Jack Topht with his Little Cake – to serenade us in front of the setting sun and well into the night. Check out the video below, shot and edited by Lesionread, featuring performances from all three acts.

Buffalo artist/savant/ L’enfant terrible Lesionread has been busily toiling away working on new concepts and music, and has let slip this tasty new morsel to whet our appetites. “Open” is atmospheric and groovy with some extremely tasty synth lines, and being a Lesionread product, it’s got some off that kilter wildness.  You can check out “Open” live with whatever else Lesionread has in mind for us June 2nd when Minneapolis electronica outfit Polica comes to the Tralf Music Hall (doors at 7, Lesionread at 8).

Sleepy Hahas Debut Lesionread Directed Music Video

Just yesterday, Buffalo garage rock foursome, Sleepy Hahas, debuted the music video for their heavy new single “I Hate My Body (and It Hates Me Too),” taken from the band’s forthcoming LP, Dull Days. The trippy clip, directed by Shawn Lewis aka Lesionread, would be a perfect way to spend a few mins during an upcoming shroom trip. The band will be celebrating the release of Dull Days on Friday, May 16th at Buffalo Iron Works. Full show details can be found here. Watch the video for “I Hate My Body (and It Hates Me Too)” below.
