Tonight: Richard Album

Last time Richard Album came through town, a bunch of people crowded into the living room of the Jungle Gym. I think he was wearing black lipstick, and maybe a tie. There were candles and the lights were low, but Richard was up and down the aisle of people acting charming and sincere like a vulnerable lounge singer. Maybe my memory is filling in some blanks, but that’s the impression I got. Now he’s coming back for a repeat performance and I hope it’s just like that. His music is a bit punky, a bit surfy, occasionally a bit Ariel Pinky in its aesthetic and its earnestness, but more likable. He’ll be joined by surf-rockers Space Wolves, new two-piece Getting Dressed and established two-piece Space is Haunted, who will also be releasing a tape at the show. Doors at 6pm, show at 7pm, $5 for the touring band. Facebook event[...]

Tonight: Facility Men

Facility Men are messy in the best kinda way. Loose and gravelly, discordant rock, with a rough-around-the-edges approach…probably one of the coolest current bands in the Buffalo crop. Plus Teo’s a madman live so you should probably check em out. They’re playing tonight at the Jungle Gym (9pm), with those fleshiest of Fleshy Mounds and Slotfillers. You know where the Jungle Gym is and if you don’t, well, don’t ask me. $5 as per the usual.

Tonight: Roz and the Rice Cakes

Tonight, the Jungle Gym will host Providence’s Roz and the Rice Cakes, some clever and friendly folks out on tour. They’ll be bringing a dose of pleasurable-to-the-ear indie folky music that has enough math-rock to it to consistently make your ears perk up before you drift too far into a reverie. They’ll be supported by local post-punk heroes Cross Stitch, unhyphenated local punk heroes Sleeptalker, and local surf-psych-pop princes Aircraft. Bring some dollars to support the touring band (suggested donation of $5) and enjoy yourself. First band will kick off promptly at 9, so get there on time and don’t be a loser. Facebook event here if’n you want to RSVP.

Tonight: Kal Marks

A sneaky good show is going down at the Jungle Gym this evening. Boston based trio, Kal Marks, will be rolling through town with its early Modest Mouse meets sunny-laden acts like SW/MM/NG jams. Slouchcore if you will. Joining the bill this evening is Buffalo’s sludge rockers Sun Black Smoke, the space grunge of ronaldraygun, and some drunk group named Dudes. Entry is $5 bucks. Ask your one friend who washes his jeans once every other week for the address.
