Must See Shows (10/16/24-10/22/24)

Friday, October 18th @ 8pm Makeout Tactics EP Release Show w/ Spud and Cheap Peach  @ The Cave Friday evening might be one of the most jam-packed calendars for quality music in Buffalo in recent memory. Every neighborhood in the city has something that I would recommend, however, not every showcase is celebrating an EP release show like Elmwood Village indie pop act, Makeout Tactics. The five-piece will be unveiling their new EP titled Skunk House, which chronicles the escapades of a bunch of friends in their twenties living together in a house that’s falling apart – almost like a co-ed Frat House. Makeout Tactics’ sound is high energy, and could be compared to Surf Curse or Los Campesinos with a hint of an edgier Max Bemis (Say Anything) accenting the gang choruses. Joining the bill will be singer/songwriter SPUD and a recently re-launched Cheap Peach. Doors are $10. Friday,[...]

GRLwood – “Keep It Average”

Louisville, KY-based act GRLwood get anxious and raucous on their latest offering, “Keep It Average.” With a gut-wrenching howl, singer Rej Forester teams up with the thundering drums from drummer Mia Morris for this soul-searching indie rocker. Rej more eloquently explains below: “To be able to love fully, you have to risk being hurt fully. To be able to take hold of success completely, you have to take the risk to fail fully. The world is a beautiful and bright place for those looking for that, as it is dismal and sad for those looking for that. Reflect back to the world what you want, no matter what it’s given you[...]

Tonight: GRLwood

Punk rockers GRLWood are at the 9th Ward tonight to deliver their thoughtful, high energy flavor The duo visits fresh off of their sophomore album release I Sold My Soul To The Devil When I Was 12, a thematic project that touches traditional punk themes while also diving into identity and queerness. Songs build from subdued into scream pop, and GRLwood are known for their live spectacles. Buffalocals Tina Panic Noise join GRLwood on the card, piecing together a night of defiant, queer punk rock jammers. Influenced by the likes of Sleater-Kinney and Mannequin Pussy, Tina speaks, and screams, for the marginalized to be heard. Tickets go for $10 with doors at 7pm, and the show kicks off at 8pm.
