Foyer Red – “Etc”

One-of-a-kind indie rock act Foyer Red is back with another stellar single called “Etc.” Call it freak-punk, call it avant-garde, or just straight up indie rock, “Etc.” is full of wonky guitar riffs, nimble bass licks, and unique harmonies that are sure to strike you in a way you’ve never felt/heard before. Between the unique, jaunty rhythms and the overall carefree vibes, “Etc” sounds like it could be the soundtrack to a fun house (that’s a genuine compliment… Somehow). About the song, singer Elana Riordan says: “My character in ‘Etc’ finds themselves in a dysfunctional relationship in which gender informs internal struggles of power and control.” We’re Foyer Red stans – in case you missed it, check out our previous features of “Slander,” “Pickles,” and “Flipper.” “Etc” is out now on Carpark Records – it can be found on Apple Music and Spotify, along with the rest of Foyer Red’s[...]

Foyer Red – “Pickles”

There’s something intangibly amazing about the chaotic indie rock coming out of Foyer Red. Their music, in this case, “Pickles,” exists at the apex of indie punk, math rock, and sweetly-sung indie rock – midwestern twinkles, ebullient bass, and dueling vocal parts come together in a sort of perfectly-imperfect way. To put it bluntly, it’s weird and it’s truly one-of-a-kind… And that’s what makes it so amazing. About the song, they say: “The lyrics are about depressive episodes trapping you in your own home, turning physical space into dungeon space. Everything feels stale; the air gets too warm but you can’t get up to fix it. You’re relying on external factors to make a difference in your world and there’s a sort of intersection of comfort and discomfort.” P.S. Foyer Red – “Flipper”

Last time we checked in with the playfully chaotic Foyer Red, we were nerding out about their then-latest single, the World of Warcraft inspired “Slander.” They’re back with another angular jaunt, this time, called “Flipper.” Nimble basslines, tempo changes, and singer Elana Riordan’s endearing vocals bring to mind other genre luminaries like Speedy Ortiz and Great Grandpa. There’s even a woodwind(?) instrument that makes an appearance mid-song. Delight your eardrums with this one-of-a-kind tune – we’ve uploaded it below. You can also find “Flipper” on Spotify and Apple Music.

Foyer Red – “Slander”

We’ve never heard anything quite like “Slander” by Foyer Red… Their songs are playfully chaotic – featuring plucky guitar riffing, squiggly synth arrangements, dueling vocals, tempo changes, and even a bit of whistling. The first single from their upcoming EP Zigzag Wombat (October 22) is called “Slander” – it’s an ode to a World of Warcraft nemesis who liked to pwn noobs. For such an effervescent song, it’s a fitting subject matter with a charming backstory. Their quirky approach is a bit like Speedy Ortiz, Great Grandpa, or Deerhoof. Fans of any of the aforementioned should check this out for sure. If you’re digging “Slander,” check it out via Soundcloud below. You can then swing by Spotify or Apple Music for your streaming needs. Foyer Red · Slander
