Tonight: Dr. Dog

Ten years ago Buffalo’s music scene got a righteous kick up the pants when the Town Ballroom opened in the heart of the Theater District. With an emphasis on contemporary acts and one of the best rooms for live music you can go to, Buffalo finally had a place for indie bands too big for the Mohawk like TV On The Radio, Beach House, St. Vincent, Santigold and M83, and our music scene has never been the same. To celebrate this glorious milestone, the pride of West Grove, Pennsylvania return to the Queen City when psychedelic indie rockers Dr. Dog hit up the Town Ballroom with The Districts. Buffalo definitely seems to be “Dr. Dog Country,” with this show their third in three years at the Town Ballroom and sixth in Western New York since 2009, and that means their true believers will be jumping and ready to worship their[...]

Just Announced: Dr. Dog

After a handful of memorable area appearances over the years, including a eulogizing set for Mohawk Place a couple years back, the Philadelphia based, Queen City loved psych-folk rockers, Dr. Dog, will be once again gracing the stage of Town Ballroom, this time on Wednesday, March 9th. While the band does not have a new record under its belt (at least yet) to tour on, the group did release its first live album, Live at a Flamingo Hotel, earlier this year, so if you have yet to catch Dr. Dog’s raucous, and sometimes shriek inducing, live show, that would be a good place to start. Tickets will go on sale this Friday, October 23rd, at noon for $25.

Dr. Dog at Town Ballroom (1/21/15)

Wednesday night, Dr. Dog returned to Buffalo for their latest in a long list of memorable area performances. For a band that almost seemed to make Mohawk Place a temporary home on their stops through town, there’s been something inspiring in the sight of the crowds growing with each successive show at Town Ballroom. And with the Philly-based band touring in support of their new live album, Live at the Flamingo Hotel, it gave the band the perfect chance to put on a “greatest hits” show of sorts. With an arsenal of eight albums worth of gems behind them, the band came prepped with a set designed to please fans of every era of the band. Dr. Dog has always walked a fine line between indie rock and the Beatles inspiration they wear on their sleeves, and that was a line they felt safe crossing back and forth throughout the[...]

Zach Miller of Dr. Dog

Touring the US in support of their first live album, Live at Flamingo Hotel, Dr. Dog will bring their high-spirited folk rock to Buffalo again this year at the venerable Town Ballroom. After eight albums and a truckload of tours, the boys have undoubtedly hit a comfortable stride, and show no signs of slowing their roll. It seems fitting that Dr. Dog finally put out a live album; their electrifying live performances generate nothing but good vibes and an undying respect among their cult-like die-hards, first time attendees, and everyone in between. buffaBLOG caught up with keyboardist Zach Miller and talked touring tips, special memories, and the conception of their new live album, out now via Anti Records. buffaBLOG: Dr. Dog is about to hit the road for tour… Besides your gear and good attitudes, what are some essential items you bring along with you? Zach Miller: Folding bicycle, barbecue grill, DVDs,[...]

Just Announced: Dr. Dog

Dr. Dog never really did much for me. All of the elements were there: rollicking indie-folk rock, dual harmonies, just the right combination of psych, pop, and twang. But for some reason, I couldn’t get into them. Then a few friends dragged me to their early 2014 show, and I have to say I left a fan. The show was a blast and I was eagerly looking forward to catching them again. Luckily for me, and the rest of the bursting Town Ballroom crowd, the Philly band will return to Town Ballroom on Wednesday, January 21st as part of its Flamingo Hotel Tour. Tickets will go on sale this Friday, October 24th, at noon for $20 in advance, $23 day of.
