Tonight: Beck

One of the summer’s most interesting outdoor amphitheater tours featuring some of indie rocks biggest bands rolls through WNY tonight when Darien Lake hosts Beck, Spoon, Cage The Elephant and Sunflower Bean.  At this point Beck and Spoon are straight up elder statesmen, with the legendary Angelino prepping his fourteenth… yes fourteenth album Hyperspace, while tasteful Austin TX indie stalwarts Spoon are back in the area after that now legendary 2015 Canalside show in support of their recently released their first best of album, appropriately titled Everything Hits At Once and 2018’s bright and shiny Colors. Bringing down the median age of the bill will be Bowling Green Kenturcky garage rock conceptualists Cage The Elephant, and breakout NYC glam rock darlings Sunflower Bean, whose sophomore album Twentytwo in Blue brought together sexy T-Rex riffs, Fleetwood Mac worthy melodies, and righteous Gen Z angst  to make one of the best and downright inspirational albums of 2018.[...]

G-Eazy at Darien Lake (08/24/18)

Last Friday, Darien Lake was treated to a packed hip hop show filled with both superstars and up and coming artists.  Over the course of the night, the amphitheater filled up to capacity, while P-Lo, YBN Nahmir, Murda Beatz, Ty Dolla $ign, Lil Uzi Vert, and G-Eazy all performed high energy sets. There was a little something for everyone, and the crowd seemed head over heels while the artists played their chart topping hits. Tonight: G-Eazy

If you’re looking for some last minute Friday plans, Darien Lake might be your best bet. Look no further if you’re a fan of hip hop, as Darien Lake’s outdoor amipthetear is hosting a star studded lineup tonight. The show will be headlined by chart topping Oakland pop rap star G-Eazy, and will also feature four other sets. Up and comer P-Lo will kick things off, followed by a DJ set by producer to the mega stars, Murda Beatz. Ty Dolla $ign and Lil Uzi Vert will also perform full sets.  Every artist on the bill has released a project within the past year, so expect to hear some new material. Tickets can be found relatively cheap on Livenation’s website, and all ticket purchases include admission to the amusement park for the day. Not a bad deal. Tickets are also available at the door, and the show is set to[...]

Green Day at Darien Lake PAC (08/26/17)

Pop punk fans and radio listeners alike came out in droves to the Green Day show at Darien Lake this past Saturday.  The band’s explosive show featured songs spanning their entire career as a band, and they did not disappoint.  There was never a dull moment from start to finish, kicking the show off with their 2009 hit, “Know Your Enemy,” and closing their 26 song set with an acoustic performance of “Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life).”  They also didn’t skip out on their signature live show antics, pulling multiple young fans out of the crowd to perform parts of songs, having them stage dive into the crowd afterward.  The show was kicked off with a great set by British indie act, Catfish and the Bottlemen, and while it seemed like an odd pairing at first, the four piece did a great job of warming up the crowd. Tonight: Incubus & Deftones

These days, the so-called nu metal movement of the late 90s and early Aughts – spawning such atrocities as Papa Roach, Kid Rock and Linkin Park, to name a few – is typically dismissed with the contempt and scorn it so rightfully deserves. But, as is the case with most fad sub-genres, it also spawned a handful of artists who are actually worth your time and money. Chief among these nu-metal diamonds in the rough was the Sacramento art-metal quintet the Deftones. While their contemporaries have mostly fallen by the wayside, finally succumbing to years critical panning and godawful records, the Deftones have remained popular and even acclaimed, buoyed largely by their varied influences, adventurous experimentation and flair for juxtaposing beautiful, serene moments with vicious screaming and chainsaw riffage. You could make the same case for the alt/funk rockers Incubus, who while best known for their 2000 rock ballad “Drive,”[...]

Tonight: Drake vs Lil Wayne

Drake and Lil Wayne are kicking off their tour locally tonight so we can all hang with the Young Money Club and see the saddest twenty-something of Toronto in action. A new Street Fighter themed trailer for the tour’s associated smartphone app even seems to promise battles between the “Sage” and “Protégé.” Drive out to the Darien Lake Performing Arts Center tonight if you’re trying to catch as many happy Lil Wayne giggles in your butterfly basket as possible. But in all reality, drive out for Drake. Drake at all costs. Drake is so hot right now. He even gave us “Make Me Proud,” the hip-hop song our generation truly deserves. The event starts at 7:00 p.m. and tickets are $35.00 for lawn seating, or range from $49.50 to $125.50 for reserved seating.
