Tonight: Herd Fest Day 1

buffaBLOG is proud to launch the first day of events for this year’s Herd Fest. A lot of planning and curating went into crafting these shows and we are psyched to gather some of the most buzzed about local and regional acts for your viewing/listening pleasure. We encourage you to seek out bands you are not familiar with, and bounce around from venue to venue to get a real feel for what Western New York’s music scene is like in 2017. Mohawk Place opens it doors at 7pm for a night that will please any music fan. Set to open are up-and-coming indie rock act Hundred Plus Club, scene staples dreambeaches, Ithaca buzzing emcee Sammus, and the unveiling of the new project God Save the Queen, a collaboration between DJ Mario Bee and Mic Excel. $7 cover. Wildhoney at Mohawk Place (05/04/17)

A couple weeks back, Baltimore pop/shoegaze five piece, Wildhoney, returned to Buffalo for yet another fantastic show.  The bands ability to not only create an insane wall of sound, but their ability to keep the music super catchy and interesting were in full effect, coming together to pull off one of the best sets I’ve seen so far this year.  The new tracks that they played sounded incredible live, as did their older releases.  Local emo four piece, Honey., and Albany based pop act, Cannon the Brave, kicked things off, making for a memorable night.  Check out some photos from the show below, shot by blog photographer, Brendan O’Connor. honey Cannon the Brave Wildhoney

Cannon the Brave – Cannon the Brave EP

Cannon the Brave is an indie pop outfit from Albany, NY who take their name from Allyson Smith’s superhero alter ego. The group originated as a songwriting outlet between twin sisters Allyson and Whitney Smith, eventually adding three members to support the act’s growing sound (Eric Margan, Mike Campana and Brian Beverly). The project is roughly a year-and-a-half old and have a mantra that aims to bring out the best in themselves and those they touch. The first song off the self-titled EP, “The Only Thing I Need,” spills in with a lovely, old-sounding piano statement. Deep ohs warmly wrap themselves around you. “I was afraid of what I would become…” is sung amidst powerful chordal keys. Smith shares truth in telling her audience that all you need is inside of you. “Sometimes” kicks with background falsettos and groovy bass drum.
