JEEN – “Look What You Did”

JEEN continues to build upon her absolutely stellar offerings with “Look What You Did,” recently released in anticipation of her EP For The Romance due out October 30th. It seemingly takes on a funky/freaky David Byrne-esque life of its own, but JEEN, ever the pro, is able to ride the waves and bring the song in for a soft landing. Drums, synth, and a dope bass line bounce around and off of JEEN’s vocals that occasionally turn echoey and it all works exceedingly well.   Be sure to check out our prior coverage of JEEN here (especially “Pour Your Heart“). Tonight: Sloan

Canadian heroes and local favorites Sloan return to Western New York as part of their One Chord To Another 20th anniversary tour. The timeless Nova Scotian (sic) power pop rockers are themselves enjoying a major anniversary, having formed 25 years ago at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (yet another legendary band formed at an art school), and while they’ve never achieved widespread success in the US, they’ve cultivated a fanbase in border cities and towns over the decades like Buffalo that welcomes them whenever they play here. On this tour fans will be getting two sets of Sloan: One Chord To Another in it’s entirety and a whole set of Sloan classics, so don’t mess around. Doors open at 7pm, show starts at 8pm, and tickets are $27.50.

Jay Fletch – “Money Can Change Everything”

Calgary’s finest is on display on “Money Can Change Everything” from the city’s Jay Fletch. Canada’s rap scene has been on fire, and Jay flexes his abilities on the carefully dreary, heavy beat for “Money.” He’s composed but reflective on a knockout hook where he raps “I swear to God money can change everything, tryna live my life, be a better man. Talk about the sun and the rain I’m the weather man.” Jay’s finances are definitely on display, but the track is more about personal relations and self-improvement. Tonight: Sloan

Sloan are no strangers to Buffalo. Returning for their fourth show in the past five years, the Canadian power-pop legends make their way back to The Tralf again tonight in support of their latest album, Commonwealth. The four-piece is famous for their shared songwriting credits and the latest double-album perhaps offers the clearest distillation of Sloan’s sound with all four band members offering a collection of songs. One can expect  plenty of new rockers from the storied Canadian band as well as classics from seminal albums like Twice Removed and Pretty Together. With recent (and upcoming( appearances from other Canadian Indie Rockers like Tokyo Police Club and Stars, Sloan’s appearance tonight is yet another chapter in the great Canadian/Buffalo musical tradition and one not to be missed. Doors at the Tralf open at 7:00 PM tonight and tickets are $24 at the door.
