After taking a year off from their holiday shows, local legends Every Time I Die returned to their hometown and brought their annual Christmas shows back to Buffalo Riverworks this past weekend.  Still riding high off the release of their latest critically acclaimed record released earlier this year, Radical, the Buffalo boys made for a weekend to remember for locals and out of towners alike.  With pre parties and after parties on Friday and Saturday, a pre show at Rec Room on Thursday, and a massive curated list of stuff to do in the city, the boys in ETID turned Buffalo into a whirlwind for the weekend.   If you were in local restaurants or small businesses, odds are you saw someone going to the shows.  The energy that these shows produce not only at the venue, but in the city as well, is truly something special. ‘Tid The Season Night Two at Riverworks (12/14/19)

It’s difficult to think of a band that puts on for their city harder than Every Time I Die. Over the years,  ETID’s holiday shows have become bigger and bigger,  and have evolved into a city wide phenomenon that can’t be ignored. The holiday shows have grown into a two day affair at Buffalo Riverworks, featuring 12 out of town bands of varying genres and two 25+ song headlining sets from Every Time I Die.  The second day featured sets from Seeyouspacesowboy, Candy, Mongol Horde, Cave In, The Get Up Kids, Ghostface Killah, and Glassjaw. Thousands of fans from all over the world flocked to Buffalo over the weekend, saw all that our city has to offer, supported our businesses, and witnessed what is always one of the craziest shows of the year. I’m sure everyone in attendance is already counting down the days until next year. Check out our photos from the second night of the shows below,[...]

Every Time I Die’s Annual Holiday Show at Buffalo Riverworks (12/15/18)

After last weekend, it’s safe to say that Buffalo is a better place with Every Time I Die.  Following last year’s insane holiday show, tickets for last weekend’s festival sold out months in advance, and a crowd of 3,500 flocked to Buffalo Riverworks  to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year.  Buffalo born and raised, Every Time I Die have amassed an insane international following over their 20 year career, selling out massive shows not only all over the country, but the world.  The madness that ensued at the show is something you can’t even really comprehend until you see it first hand.  Fans from all over the world flew into our city for the show, supported our businesses, and celebrated the city they heard so much about from ETID.  From start to finish, there was not a dull moment in the crowd, it was constant chaos. Even if you’re not a fan[...]

Tonight: Beach Slang

It’s been a pretty wild year of shows, and Robbie Takac has literally given us a genuine doozy, bringing indie band Beach Slang back to headline his Music Is Art festival, going down all day today at Buffalo Riverworks. After playing the area twice last year and creating much joy both times, the intense, exuberant, and frankly hilarious Philadelphia band released the achingly haunting Everything Matters But No One Is Listening, an affecting orchestral take on righteous cuts from the bands first few albums under the name Quiet Slang. But for tonight’s show they’re billed as Beach Slang so don’t expect an orchestra tonight… although that would be pretty sweet; instead you should probably expect an epic blowout of serious jams to get yer ya ya’s out to and then some. Music Is Art begins at 11am down at Riverworks, and as always it’s free, including Beach Slang, who play the main stage at 9:30pm.[...]

Jimmy Eat World at Riverworks (12/06/17)

Last week, Alternative Buffalo hosted the second night of the Kerfuffle Before Christmas at Riverworks.  They managed to land Jimmy Eat World to headline the second night, along with indie acts Børns and Saint Motel to kick things off.  This was Jimmy Eat Worlds first show in Buffalo in quite some time, and they put on a killer performance packed with songs spanning their entire discography.  They obviously treated the audience to their hits, but also gave their bigger fans some special treats in the form of deep cuts of off their more cult classic records, Futures and Clarity.  Check out some photos from the show below, shot by blog photographer, Brendan O’Connor. The Front Bottoms at Buffalo RiverWorks (10/22/17)

This past Sunday, The Front Bottoms returned to Buffalo, this time playing an insane set at Buffalo RiverWorks. The New Jersey based indie / pop punk act played Buffalo last year at the Town Ballroom, and since then, dropped a new LP on Fueled By Ramen, titled Going Grey.  While the record had only been out for three or four days by the time of the show, the band’s dedicated fans somehow seemed to know every word to every song. They played an insane 21 song set featuring songs from all four of their major label records, and neither the crowd nor the band took a break during the set, making it an unforgettable night. Check out some photos from their crazy set below, along with shots of both openers Bad Bad Hats and Basement, shot by blog photographer, Brendan O’Connor. HRVST Festival at Riverworks (10/14/17)

Last Saturday, local radio station, 103.3 The Edge partnered with After Dark Presents to threw their inaugural HRVST Festival. While the show was original slated to take place at the Cumulus Festival Grounds, it was moved to an outdoor festival stage at Riverworks due to production issues. This may have been for the better, as the covered, open air stage at Riverworks served as a great fit for the autumn themed festival. The lineup was eclectic and great, featuring a whole day full of music, including sets from PVRIS, Joywave, Brian Fallon, Manchester Orchestra, and Phoenix.
