Mutual Friends Release New Single “Always Thinking of You”

What really defines “knowing” someone in 2016? Friends, friends of friends, that girl who messaged me, that guy who added me, social media has made this question trickier. There’s people we may communicate with face to face that feel like strangers and those we’ve never even met who feel like they’ve opened their whole world to us. Is this a true connection aided by technology or a simple respite from loneliness? Mutual Friends don’t have the answers to the questions, but they’re willing to play with these ideas. The band is new to the Buffalo music scene but was formed by some of it’s biggest heavy-hitters including Nelson-Type’s Kevin Scoma and the ever prolific, Bryan Johnson. Right out of the gate the band has been smart about their presentation, from their band name to their hazy debut single, “Instant Gratification,” which was accompanied by a promo shot that shortened it to[...]

Tonight: Taking Back Friday

Don’t worry. It’s okay if you’re still emo. That’s right! It’s okay if you wear your heart on your sleeve, if you still want to walk around with a hair-eyepatch, if you instinctively take selfies from an upward angle (you’ve even affected a modern day trend). All of those urges buried deep within are acceptable… At least tonight they are. buffaBLOG gifts you an excuse to delve into your past/current music loves (i.e. Taking Back Sunday, Brand New, The Academy Is…, My Chemical Romance, Dashboard Confessional, Thursday, The Hotelier, Modern Baseball, etc) in Taking Back Friday, an admittedly emo get together presented by yours truly at Milkie’s. Come unabashedly partake in emo feels with fellow emos. Narrating your night will be DJ sets starting at about 10pm from Jessica Railey (Communist Party), Tom and Donnie Burtless (All Blondes Go To Heaven, Buffalo Eats), and Bryan Johnson (Wildebeast Wontabeast). A blast from the[...]

Local sunny songwriter Bryan Johnson has just been added for local support, so celebrate the summer and head to the Tralf tonight. Doors open at 7pm and tickets are $23.

Bryan Johnson and Family – Cool Your Jets

Local cult leader, Bryan Johnson (that is why he calls his band ‘Family,’ right?) is one of the hardest working musicians in the city. His band has been a mainstay at local shows for years and with good reason, they are jittery, poppy crowd pleasers. And with the weather quickly cooling, the band has released a last burst of sunshine with its latest EP, Cool Your Jets. Joyful might be the quickest way to describe the bulk of Johnson’s music. Most of the songs on Cool Your Jets move quickly, featuring a bouncy beat and jangling guitars. That beat becomes the driving force behind the EP and really is one of the key features of the band’s unique sound. Impressively, Bryan Johnson and David Hamilton’s guitar playing is equally percussive, driving that bounce forward, and complimenting it well. In step with this is Johnson’s own good natured vocals. The EP evokes scenes of late[...]

Silo Sessions Debuts Latest Clip feat. Bryan Johnson
