Tonight: Pinky Doodle Poodle

Its Robby Takac’s Buffalo tonight at Mohawk Place. Pinky Doodle Poodle, all the way from Tokyo, is back to record a third album at Takac’s Good Charamel Records studio, and to make the most of their visit, will be hitting the stage at Mohawk later on. This band rocks like old school punk. Are they the Japanese Lemuria? When I saw Super Killer Robots at Music is Art my first impression of them was they were a typical hard rock band with one tall robot member. My first impression still stands. Lo-fi local punk band Boy Scouts will also open. Music begins at 8pm with a cover of $5.

Black Dots

Continuing with this weekend’s Herd Fest festivities, local record shop Black Dots will be hosting another rooftop show this evening.  The show will feature all local acts.  Kicking off the showcase will be fem punk outfit Boy Scouts, followed by fresh local act Alien Three, featuring members of Dream Journal and Failure’s Union.  Up next will be Black Dots imprint Facility Men, and the showcase will be closed out by the psychedelic beatdown hardcore act, Junk Drawer. As usual, the showcase is free if you have a Herd Fest bracelet, but if not it will be five dollars.  Black Dots is on the corner of Grant and Lafayette.  If weather does not permit the outdoor porch show, the gig will be held inside the store. If you can’t find your way up to the porch,  come down into the shop and someone will direct you. Black Dots is on the[...]

Tonight: The Lopez

Tonight should be a rowdy one for Buffalo’s growing DIY scene with two legit out-of-towners plugging in their amps in The Northrup’s basement. PIttsburgh-based duo, The Lopez, is set to head to play headline, if that’s the proper term for a tiny basement show. Self-coined as “snot rock,”  The Lopez’ playful keyboards, fuzzy guitars, and a bouncy drum machine concoct a fun sound that fits somewhere in the middle of a vein diagram of Le Tigre, Sheer Mags, and The Buzzcocks.  Also set to play are Dallas-based punk-group Slimy Member, with local support from feminist-garde Boy Scouts, spooky low-fiers Space is Haunted, and the gripping wails of Jamie and the debt. Get there around 7pm with $5 in your hand to get The Lopez to Cleveland and Slimy Member to Brooklyn.

Tonight: Day Camp

Cincinnati-based indie rock quartet, Day Camp, will be making a stop in Buffalo tonight with support from local trio, Boy Scouts. With a tape release right around the corner (February 13th to be exact) via Rochester-based tape label, Dadstache Records, Day Camp has been making the rounds throughout upstate NY. Obvious comparisons for the band are The Get Up Kids, Tugboat Annie, and Mineral. Comfy was supposed to be on this gig but have since been removed. Don’t worry, I have a feeling we will be hearing from them fairly soon. Tonight’s show is at Northrup. That’s probably all you need to know.
