Sunny Day Real Estate @ Electric City
Second wave emo forefathers Sunny Day Real Estate hit the big stage at Electric City for a night of nostalgic feels mid-week. Formed in Seattle, Washington in 1992, the band has been credited for the recipe and rise of the Midwest emo sound. Sunny Day has been inspired many of the movers and shakers in the third wave of emo and early to mid 2000s pop punk fields, serving as a major influence and inspiration on their songwriting styles. If you’re a fan of The Get Up Kids, The Promise Ring, or Appleseed Cast then you already know about Sunny Day Real Estate and you already have your ticket most likely. It’s $49.32.
Saturday, June 7th @ 7pm
Lazlo Hollyfeld Plays In Rainbows @ Town Ballroom
It’s no secret that we are major fans of Lazlo Hollyfeld at the blog – they have been one of the most consistent acts since buffaBLOG’s inception. We’ve collaborated on multiple Halloween parties at Mohawk Place where the band did sold-out tributes to LCD Soundsystem and Arcade Fire. Whatever avenue the band has taken, whether it be their own experimental jam-tinged indie psych or paying tribute to some of the most beloved artists of the generation, Lazlo always brings it.
This Saturday, Lazlo Hollyfeld extends their chameleon prowess to play one of Radiohead’s most beloved albums, In Rainbows. Expect to be mesmerized and lose yourself in the moment. $29.50 cover.
Sunday, June 8th @ 7pm
Dead Gowns @ 9th Ward
Dead Gowns makes a stop at our favorite basement venue this Sunday. Genevieve Beaudoin, the brains and voice behind the project, has a light and twangy sound, blending elements of of indie folk, rock, and alt-country with her commanding voice. Fans of Big Thief, Cat Power, or Neko Case would be into this one. Show up early for sets by Rattlesnake Jake, who had our Album of the Week earlier this year, and indie singer/songwriter Bryan Dubay who is in the midst of pumping out a bunch of singles, $25 cover.
