Must See Shows (6/11/25-6/17/25)

Friday, June 13th
Perfume Genius @ Electric City
Art-pop crooner Perfume Genius makes a stop Friday night for an undoubtedly gripping performance in the Theatre District. Perfume Genius is the performing name for Iowa native Mike Hadreas and his rotating cast of musicians who have been performing under the project name since 2008. The band has connected with their fans largely in part to Hadreas’ vulnerable lyrics and commanding story telling.
The band touring in support of their critically acclaimed album, Glory, which came out in the tail end of March. If you are a fan of Sufjan Stevens, Andy Shauf, or Arcade Fire, this is up your alley. It’s $45.28.
Saturday, june 14th @ 5pm
The Beaches @ Albright Knox Gallery
The AKG ups the ante after last spring’s Khruangbin performance as part of their Rockin’ the AKG series. This year, the gallery has teamed up with local public media broadcasters Buffalo Toronto Public Media to curate an evening of some of the most buzzed-about Canadian artists just over the border.
The Beaches have been regularly selling out tours and playing at the top of various music festivals over the past few years. The band’s accessible indie pop rock repertoire is full of sing-a-long tracks that are pure earworms. If you’re a fan of Wolf Alice, Royal Otis, or HAIM, The Beaches should already be on your radar.
Not to be overshadowed are support roles from Canadian indie scene veterans, The Trews, and a solo set from Menno Versteeg of the rock band Hollerado.
We were already pumped about this lineup, but there was a sneaky late addition on social media channels a few weeks back announcing that #1 Myspace songstress Lights would be joining the bill. How they managed to squeeze on one of the buzziest underground electro-pop acts of the aughts and 10s AND managed to keep it the same price is pure concert magic.
It’s a promising use of the space and we are excited to see partnership and opportunities moving forward into the fall. It’s $50 but if this was in Toronto it would be $1,900 CAD.
Tuesday, June 17th @ 7pm
Laura Jane Grace @ Electric City
Laura Jane Grace & band makes their annual summer stop in Western New York on Tuesday. Grace has been a constant in the punk and indie scene for nearly 30 years, notably as the lead musician for cult status punk band Against Me! The band has an intense following in part due to their strong political views, trans advocacy, and environmental activism.
Opening the night is queer Michigan bar rock outfit Rodeo Boys, who are signed to respected punk curators Don Giovanni Records. It’s $36.01.
