JOEYB – anything can come apart.

JOEYB’s latest album’s leading song is “the murder of john lennon,” but was originally named “anything can come apart,” the title of the upcoming musician’s complete second LP. The sounds in the singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist’s first track can be compared to that of Alex G – think “The Same” of the seminal indie rocker’s album Race. The “big” first song that accompanies both of JOEYB’s albums features the same kind of intent, featuring explosions of metamorphizing sounds, on what is otherwise a wonderful combination of guitar work and vocals.

While anything can come apart can be catalogued as an over arching indie rock, other tracks call to mind Phoebe Bridger’s work as an indie folk artist. Take “new year,” a carefully finger picked song, that shows anything can come apart is full of carefully embedded craftsmanship. There are also moments where JOEYB blends feedback and heavier sounds which can be compared to Dinosaur Jr. eccentricities, but are not out of place in the story that the artist is documenting and sharing with his audience.

According the artist himself, as told in an interview with 1120press.com, half the album is about his girlfriend, which winds its way to the listeners ear after songs about self-loathing, black-and-white thinking and severe introspection. It’s a relief as the last three songs divulge JOEYB’s romantic side as he woos his new love and promises to do better while showing off a new self-awareness he hopes will stay the tides of his tumultuous former relationship’s path.

However good things are now, the last track of anything can come apart, “please refund your ticket” pounds home the concept of the concept of the album with a foreboding of things to come. JOEYB is in the silence of the center of the storm when he finishes his work, but lives in complete acceptance the winds will pick up once again. He shares with his audience this fear, but with the attitude of a man going to war. A soldier who will allow the good times to come and fight through the rest.

In any case, a word of advice as one sifts through anything can come apart. It will surprise the average listener as they are given an all transparent look at JOEYB’s life as a Gen Z-er coming into his prime and the reaction against it. anything can come apart (June 20, 2025) can be found on all streaming on Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube.
